Expectations are high for the Edon Bombers football team entering the 2019 season with ten starters back on offense and nine on defense for 10th year head coach Scott Staten. Among the returners on offense for Edon, who looks to build on last season’s 7-3 record, will be sophomore quarterback Drew Gallehue who accounted for 1,920 yards of total offense and 20 touchdowns (15 passing, 5 rushing).
Also back for Edon is TE/LB Austin Kiess, the TAAC Defensive Player of the Year with his 63 tackles and 3 sacks to go along with seven receiving touchdowns. Other key returners for Edon will be Chase Reed WR/DB (TAAC Special Teams Player of the Year, 37.0 yards per kickoff return), Kelby Sapp WR/DB (609 rec. yards, 4 TDs, 1st Team District Special Mention Wide Receiver), and Shane Zulch OL/DL (63 tackles, 3 sacks, 1st Team All TAAC Defensive End).
“We look to be competitive each week and play fundamentally sound football. We have a large senior class with a lot of varsity experience, so we are counting on them to be leaders on and off the field”, said Staten when providing an outlook for the upcoming season.
“We have had a great offseason and have used hard work as our driving force to prepare ourselves for this season. We will need players to elevate their individual play while also playing as a unit to improve on last year’s record”, he concluded.
ABOUT THEIR SCHEDULE: Due to some schedule changes, Edon will play only four home games this season and will play their first four games on the road. The season will start at Newark Catholic on August 31 followed by games at Edgerton, Hicksville, and then Northwood to begin TAAC play on September 20th. The Bombers first home game will be on September 27th when they host Montpelier.
