The Pike-Delta-York Local School District Board of Education recognized winners of its student of the month awards during its meeting Wednesday afternoon.
For the elementary school, third-grade student Declan Hoffman was recognized by Principal Ellen Bernal, who read a statement written by one of his teachers.
“Declan truly embodies what it means to be a great student. He loves coming to school, has a positive attitude, and is well loved and respected by his peers.
Declan consistently helps others with assignments and reading aloud. He follows the rules, excels in math, and actively participates in class discussions. His politeness and respect towards teachers are commendable.
Declan takes on challenges with enthusiasm and is a hard-working student who puts in effort in everything he does. I am very proud to have him in my class this year and confident he will continue to be successful in the future,” the statement read.
For the middle school, sixth-grade student Lillian Shoemaker was recognized by Principal Pamela Schultz, who read a statement from the sixth-grade team.
“Lillian embodies the values of hard work, kindness, and responsibility. She has shown herself to be a dedicated learner by approaching her studies with a strong work ethic, consistently putting in the effort needed to excel.
Her commitment to her academics is evident in her conscientious approach to assignments and her willingness to seek help when needed. This determination has set positive examples for her peers. Beyond her academics, Lillian is kind and compassionate.
She is always willing to lend a helping hand to her classmates, whether that means helping a struggling peer or simply offering words of encouragement. Her respectful demeanor and ability to collaborate effectively with others makes her an invaluable member of our school community. The team wholeheartedly recommends Lillian Shoemaker as a student of the month.
Her hard work, kindness, dedication, respectfulness, and sense of responsibility make her an exemplary Delta Panther,” the statement read.
For the high school, sophomore Gabriella Thomas was recognized by Principal Douglas Ford, who read statements from several of her teachers.
Science teacher Michelle Engel wrote that “Gabby is responsible for completing her labs and homework each day. She communicates well, letting me know if she has questions. She adapts well to learning new concepts and skills. Gabby is always smiling and pleasant to be around.”
Social studies teacher Michael Freado wrote that “Gabby Thomas is immensely deserving of this recognition. She stands out among her peers for a number of reasons.”
“Over the course of this year, I have seen her consistently elevate the experience of our third period U.S. history class through her insightful questions and observations, commitment to fulfilling her responsibilities at a high level, and her ability and willingness to take on complex problems and challenges and solve them. She possesses a rare and special combination of skills and abilities that make her peers gravitate towards her.”
“What makes her even more impressive is she has the grit and industriousness to maximize all of her immense potential. She is a tremendous asset to our class, school, and our entire community.”
