Allan D Lichtenwald WEBAllan D. Lichtenwald, 67, of Archbold, OH, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, at his home surrounded by the comforts and love of his family, following a lengthy battle with declining health. He was born June 3, 1947, in Morenci, MI, to the late Douglas Leo and Irene Louise (Kutzley) Lichtenwald. Al married his loving wife Ella Marie Opdycke on June 30, 1967, and she survives.

Al was a 1965 graduate of Gorham Fayette High School, and a life-long resident of the area. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army Reserve from 1966 – 1972. He farmed for 27 years, and later worked as a union bricklayer for SA Storrs in Sylvania, OH, where he retired in 2005. In retirement he was known as the “greeter” at E & S Auto & Tire in Archbold.

Al enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and adopted neighborhood grandchildren. He made frequent trips to the casino, and enjoyed camping, where he was a skilled fire-stoker. In his younger years, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 47 years, Ella, are their three children, Lisa (Rusty) Collins of Bryan, OH, Gwen (Scott) Caston of Fort Brag, NC, and Eric (Stacy) Lichtenwald of Archbold; two brothers, David (Becky) Lichtenwald, and Ronald (Melody) Lichtenwald both of Fayette; three sisters, Kathy Amos, Karen (Curtis) Bentley, and Vicki Lichtenwald all of Fayette; nine grandchildren, Kylee, Alex, Sydney, Savanna, Sophie, Audrey, Alijah, Trinity, and Brea; his mother-in-law, Hutoka Opdycke of Fayette; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bill Amos; and his father-in-law, Floyd Opdycke.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider memorial contributions in honor of Al to the Family Life Center. Friends can share memories and condolences with the Lichtenwald family online at www.eaglefuneralhomes.com
