Village landlords are being asked to attend a meeting at a local church in the hopes they will form an organization. Word of the meeting was given by Pastor Dave Tilley at the Montpelier Area Chamber of Commerce meeting Nov. 11. The meeting will be at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at 7 p.m., Dec. 8. Tilly, who emphasized he was only the messenger, said it was the hope of the local ministerial group the landlords would form an organization. The village of Archbold has a new fire chief. Dave Davis has been appointed as the new designate and will begin his duties Dec. 5. He will be paid $58,000 a year. He will replace Andy Broadbeck who is retiring. The council also renewed a contract with the Fulton County Commissioners for reimbursement for legal representation for indigents. The council approved a renewal of a contract allowing the Dog Warden to enforce animal control laws in the village. The Wauseon City Council approved a six-month moratorium on marijuana cultivation, processing or sale. The legislation takes immediate effect. The action came at the council’s Nov. 7 meeting. Thomas A. McWatters, Director of Law, said the administrative agencies haven’t passed their regulations and it probably won’t take place for another five or six months. The city has the option to extend that six-month moratorium. Ordinance 2016-13 will prevent any zoning or building permits or any of those endeavors relating to the medical marijuana. Citing a need to have someone at the water plant for at least 20 hours a week, West Unity has created a new position. The move comes as the Village Council seeks to comply with expected changes in rules from the state EPA. The council met in executive session during its meeting Nov. 10 and then passed a measure authorizing Village Administrator Josh Fritsch to advertise for a supervisor with Water 1 and a Wastewater 2 licenses. The Dane Michael Veterans Center played host to a chili cook-off for local veterans in Montpelier Nov. 11. A couple dozen people attended the event, which doubled as a potluck for veterans. Correcting an omission 70 years in the making, the American Legion Post in West Unity finally bears the name of a hero. Post 669 dedicated its building to the memory of Leroy W. “Junior” Wyse in a special evening ceremony Nov. 11. The post will now be known as the Junior Wyse Post 669. Stryker Schools bridged several generations with a special Veterans Day event. Students were encouraged to invite their relatives who are either on active duty or had served previously to eat lunch and then attend a multimedia tribute. The 1957 auditorium was filled with students and veterans as they viewed a slideshow of veterans from their time of service and captions showing the relationships with the students. There were three shows, one for grades 4-6, K-3 and 7-12. Students and staff at Four County Career Center were honored to attend the Veterans’ Day assembly to pay tribute to all of the men and woman who have so proudly served in our nation’s military. The Career Center welcomed retired United States Army Sergeant Rick Yarosh who suffered burns over 60% of his body when his vehicle was hit with an IED and engulfed in flames during a routine military mission during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Evergreen Local Board of Education met in special session Nov. 10 to assess potential athletic field improvements. The board went on a walk-through assessment of the district’s athletic fields with an architect. There were seven visitors or guests present at the meeting. The board reviewed drawings of the athletic grounds provided by Kraig Beilharz, representative of Beilharz Architects. Cheryl L. Null, age 59, of Swanton, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, November 10, 2016. She was born in Minster, Ohio on December 20, 1956 to the late William R. Edgerton Village is looking for a new street superintendent after the person who used to hold the job resigned. The village council interrupted its Nov. 7 meeting to meet in executive session to determine how to pay the benefits due David Brobst and to approve advertising the opening. Brobst’s resignation was effective Nov. 6. Brobst will be paid accrued sick pay, vacation pay and compensation through Dec. 2. MONTPELIER, OHIO –The Williams County Safe Communities program reports three fatal crashes with four fatalities for the third quarter of 2016 during the months of July-September 2016. This compares with the third quarter of 2015 reporting of three fatal crashes with three fatalities in Williams County. There have been eight confirmed fatalities for Williams County through September 2016 that have been reviewed. In 2015 there were a total of eight fatalities for the year.
