James R. Joseph, 74 years, of Bryan, passed away Monday, October 31, 2016 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Jim was born September 1, 1942, in Fremont, Ohio the son of the late, Charles and Janet (Chapman) Joseph. He was a 1960 graduate of Green Springs High School, and he continued his education at Michigan State University where he obtained a bachelors degree in Forestry. Weigel, age 90, of Delta, peacefully passed away early Tuesday morning, November 1, 2016 at Swanton Health Care.  Ethel was born in Colton, Ohio on October 17, 1926 to the late Austin and Delcy (Harpert) Smith. Ethel worked as a laborer for many years starting at Dohler-Jarvis and ending at Valenite Metals in Whitehouse where she retired. MONTPELIER – After capturing at least a share of the Toledo Area Athletic Conference Title last Friday, their first league championship since 1983, all that was left for Montpelier was to top Northwood. With a win in the October 28th contest Montpelier would claim an outright title in their inaugural season in the TAAC. The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood to help stock the shelves before the busy holiday season. Many regular donors delay giving between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day because of holiday activities. This often causes a drop in donated blood available for patients. The village of Edon cleared another hurdle toward building a new water plant when the Williams Board of County Commissioners agreed to help. The board will file an application for Community Development Block Grant funding to help pay for the new plant. The village is seeking $483,000 which is half of the required $966,160. The village will build the new plant on the site of the current plant and will use the old plant for storage. Williams County will not be changing financial institutions anytime soon, after the Board of Commissioners decided to stay with local banks. County Treasurer Vicki Grimm appeared before the board Oct. 24 for a meeting of the Investment Advisory Board. The board includes Grimm and the three county commissioners. Grimm had sent an article about the possible investment opportunities if the county went with Star Ohio, which was offering 0.63 percent interest. The shift would require constant vigilance tracking the investment, she said. “We are still doing well overall (with our) portfolio,” Grimm said. “Our CDs do better than 0.63 percent.…

Walking between light and shadow a group of strangers went on tour deep into Montpelier’s past. The tour, “Voices of the Past,” led by Sandy Gordon, touched on stories from three real figures from the town’s past and two tales that dealt with the supernatural. Local unemployment rates rose in September matching the upward trend of the state and the nation in September. Williams County’s September rate (not seasonally adjusted) rate was 4.4 percent, up from 4.1 in August. Fulton County was at 4.2 up from 4.0 the previous month. Statewide the jobless rate was 4.8 percent in September, up from 4.7 percent in August. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment decreased 3,100 over the month, from a revised 5,501,000 in August to 5,497,900 in September. Mixed signals were heard about the traffic trends at local food banks at the United Way of Williams County Hunger Summit in the morning of October 27. Representatives of the Eastland Baptist food bank reported that their traffic has trended downward in all demographics. An Evergreen teacher received special recognition for her achievement on an assessment of her performance. Andrea Hesson scored well on the RESA (Resident Educator Summative Assessment).
