It was a mixed result for the Fulton County Jobs and Family Services in its quarterly report. Director Amy Metz-Simon presented the report to the Board of County Commissioners at its Oct. 25 meeting. The report shows that positive trends in some areas do not spread across the board. The results included: A downward trend for July-September in Food Assistance. The agency helped 3,012 people in June, but saw that number drop to 2,924 by September. Total benefits for the quarter were $934,153. The agency averaged 3,136 in the second quarter and 3,243 in the same quarter of 2015. There…

Ross G. Rummel, 91, a lifelong resident of Montpelier passed away early Thursday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on December 27, 1924 in Montpelier to Chester Arthur and Jessie M. (Henry) Rummel.  Ross proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  On April 20, 1946, he married Beatrice Coler in Hillsdale, Michigan and she survives. Fixing an oversight from a half century or more ago was the top action of the Fayette Village Council Oct. 26. The village told Jerry Bailey all he needed to do to vacate an alley along his property was to get the signatures from other property owners. The alley in question exists only on paper on the county auditor’s map. The Baileys own six to seven lots and another family has a lot on the “alley.” The “alley” has been built on over the years. Come Nov. 1, the village of Lyons will no longer be the only town in Fulton County not to have an income tax. The village will be sending letters out to residents the week of Oct. 24 informing them of the new tax. The city will tax incomes 1 percent. The village’s finances have been impaired by recent projects for the water system, Mayor Andrea Gleckler said. With some funding changes coming up, the Montpelier Village Council decided to change the distribution of its income tax revenues. The council approved a change in the income tax distribution from 55 percent for operating expenses and 45 percent for capital improvements to a 70-30 split at its Oct. 24 meeting. The move will help the general fund amid some cuts in state aid. The council also approved the door hanger-termination schedule for unpaid water and electric bills. The high school staff has begun department meetings for scheduling purposes. Metamora is going to allow a regional land conservancy to explore the idea of selling the reservoir. The village council heard a presentation Oct. 17 by Rob Krain, executive director of the Black Swamp Conservancy, about some farmland an unnamed person wishes to donate. Krain offered some options about the farmland and the reservoir before council made its decision. The conservancy is a regional non-profit organization working to protect farmland and set up park lands. Talks between Archbold Village and German Township over fire equipment ownership have up to 60 days to wrap up or the village will seek it elsewhere. The village council approved a resolution Oct. 17 granting 30 additional days of talks with the township with the goal of acquiring the fire apparatus and equipment.
