PIONEER (April 22, 2025) – For the first seven games of the season, scoring runs has been a complication for the Edon Bombers.
Kyler Sapp changed all that just two-outs into the first inning, pounding a home run that lit the fuse leading to a 13-run explosion in a 13-3 Bomber victory over North Central in six innings.
After Sapp’s shot over the short porch in left center, Edon rallied for three more runs on the same number of extra base hits in the second.
Braedyn Wehrle, Carter Steinke and Max Radabaugh all doubled in the frame to produce a 4-0 lead.
“That’s the one thing I feel like we have been missing,” Edon veteran coach Brien Moore said of the Bombers power surge the first two innings.
“Consistency at the plate we have needed and today we had guys one through nine who swung it very well.”
“After the first two guys in the game went out on two pitches, Kyler ground out an at-bat and got one up in the jet stream and we went from there. We wanted to focus on winning innings. When you win innings, the ‘W’s’ are going to come.”
An inning later, Edon blew the game wide open. Lane Brandt was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game, and Kadin Stantz and Steinke each singled to load the bases.
Radabaugh’s fly ball knocked home one run, then after a walk reloaded the sacks, Sapp’s fly ball to right was misplayed for a two-base error that scored all three runners and made it 8-0.
Bomber pitcher Christian Owens helped himself with an RBI base hit for a 9-0 bulge. North Central got a pair back on three Edon errors to get within 9-2 after three but Radabaugh’s run scoring single keyed a two-run fourth for Edon.
After Logan Clark homered for North Central in the bottom of the fourth, the Bombers scratched out single runs in the fifth and sixth to put the game on ice.
Owens was in total control all day, giving up just one earned run in an outing in which he threw just 74 pitches. The righty struck out eight, did not walk a hitter, and gave up just four hits.
“Christian pitched a great game for us,” Moore stated. “He’s been like that for his three starts so far this year. He was a little more efficient tonight, and efficiency gets some help when you get run support and he will be the first to tell you that.”
Edon travels to Pettisville Thursday, while North Central plays at Fayette.
