A Defiance County grand jury has returned indictments against 20 individuals, according to Prosecutor Morris Murray’s office. The charges range from burglary and drug trafficking to domestic violence and vehicular assault
Alfred Brusaw, 68, Texarkana, Texas: Brusaw has been indicted for burglary, a second-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 5, he forced entry into a residence on Buckskin Road near Hicksville to commit theft.
Jeanna Cavender, 56, Fort Wayne: Cavender faces charges for engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a second-degree felony, and three counts of theft, each a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that between May 15 and June 15, she stole merchandise from Defiance’s Menards store as part of a corrupt enterprise.
Yamil Cruz, 19, Rochester, N.Y.: Cruz has been indicted for aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; abduction, a third-degree felony; and strangulation, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 18, he forced entry into a residence on Defiance’s Webster Street to commit a criminal offense, inflicted physical harm on another person, restrained the victim’s liberty, and caused a substantial risk of physical harm by means of strangulation or suffocation.
Anthony Roberts, 44, Dayton, and Ashley Dalton, 37, 203 E. Third St.: Roberts faces charges for aggravated trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), and operating a vehicle with a hidden compartment used to transport a controlled substance, each a second-degree felony. Dalton has been indicted for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.
Austin Brooks, 29, Paulding: Brooks has been indicted for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony. Authorities allege that on May 30, he fled from a law enforcement officer’s traffic stop on Defiance’s Baltimore Street, creating a substantial risk of serious physical harm to persons or property by fleeing at a high rate of speed. He allegedly crashed the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody shortly thereafter.
Chaz Pinski, 22, 1051 Ralston Ave.: Pinski faces two counts of importuning, third- and fifth-degree felonies. Authorities allege that between Sept. 1 and Nov. 1, 2019, he used a telecommunications device to solicit a female juvenile under the age of 13 and another under the age of 16 to engage in sexual activity.
Eugene Anderson, 45, Gary, Ind.: Anderson has been indicted for two counts of vehicular assault, each a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 17, while operating a semi-truck traveling westbound on Mansfield Road, he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a vehicle traveling northbound on Schubert Road, causing serious physical harm to the two occupants, Brenden Wolff, 21, and Braxton Wolff, both of Continental. Both were taken to Mercy Health-St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.
Troy Colgan, 47, 1014 Sunday St.: Colgan faces a charge for failure to appear as required by recognizance, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 24, he failed to appear for a hearing in Defiance County Common Pleas Court after being released on a personal-recognizance bond
.Denny Collazo, 46, 1687 Cimarron Lane: Collazo has been indicted for two counts of domestic violence, each a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 29, he caused or attempted to cause physical harm to two family or household members, having had a prior domestic violence conviction
.Jacob Frericks, 33, 518 Washington Ave.: Frericks faces a charge for domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 14, on Defiance’s Hopkins Street, he caused or attempted to cause physical harm to a family or household member, having had a prior domestic violence conviction
.Eric Goudy, 21, Napoleon: Goudy has been indicted for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on March 2, 2023, at a residence in Defiance, he engaged in sexual conduct with a female juvenile between the ages of 13 and 16.
William Gray, 43, 1131 Ayersville Ave.: Gray faces charges for telecommunications fraud, a fourth-degree felony, and theft, a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that from April 13 to May 26, he stole more than $1,400 from O’Reilly Auto Parts in Defiance while employed there.
Bobby Hunt, 41, 1380 Ayersville Ave.: Hunt has been indicted for two counts of failure to appear as required by recognizance, each a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on July 2, he failed to appear for a hearing in common pleas court after being released on a personal-recognizance bond in separate cases.
Richard Parsons, 27, 310 E. Second St.: Parsons faces a charge for failure to appear as required by recognizance, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 20, he failed to appear for a hearing in common pleas court after being given a personal-recognizance bond.
Tre Vasquez, 31, 239 E. Broadway Ave.: Vasquez has been indicted for aggravated menacing, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that from June 29 to July 1, he engaged in a pattern of conduct that caused mental distress to another person and caused the victim to believe that he would cause serious physical harm to them or their family. Authorities also allege that Vasquez has a history of violence against the victim.
Rachelle Houck, 44, 1518 Westgate Dr.: Houck faces two counts of aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), each a fifth-degree felony.
Kyle Lawrence, 33, 1112 Perry St.: Lawrence has been indicted for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.
Rick Richter, 66, Hicksville: Richter faces a charge for strangulation, a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 6, at a residence on Hicksville’s East Arthur Street, he caused or created a substantial risk of physical harm to another person by means of strangulation or suffocation.
Brandon Whalen, 26, Toledo: Whalen has been indicted for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.
It should be noted that an indictment is merely an accusation, and that all criminal defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
