Donald E. Hawkins (1923-2013)

Donald Hawkins WEBDonald E. Hawkins, 89 of Hicksville, Ohio died Sunday evening at the Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville. He was born January 22, 1923 in Lenawee County, Michigan to Homer G. and Jennie M. (Moog) Hawkins. He had previously lived in the Bryan, Edon and Stryker areas. He attended high school in Stryker. He began working for his father on the family farm until he was drafted in the Army as a medic technician during World War II.

Donald retired from Spangler candy company after 31 ½ years. He also farmed in Williams County on his family farm.

Donald was a member of Trinity 7th day Adventist Church in Defiance Ohio. He enjoyed traveling, cycling, playing cards and being with his family.

He is survived by two daughters Barbara L. Jones of Lebanon Tennessee and Rebecca (John) Heffelfinger of Bryan and one son Merle (Sandra) Hawkins of Jacksonville Florida, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers Gaylord, Clifford, Lloyd, Delbert, Alva and Donald Hawkins, sister Sylvia Bailey, first wife Winona Lee (Warner) Hawkins on March 30th 1999 and second wife Eva L. (Weeks) Hawkins on November 22nd 2011.

Visitation for Donald will be Wednesday January 9th from 5-8pm at the Wilson – Geesey Funeral Home in Montpelier. Services will be Thursday at 11am at the funeral home with John K. Heffelfinger to officiate. Interment will be at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Napoleon with graveside rites by the Napoleon Veterans. Donations may be made to Trinity 7th Day Adventist.
