FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Xavier Edwards had three hits and scored three runs, as the Fort Wayne TinCaps exploded for a season-high in runs in a 12-2 win over the Dayton Dragons on Wednesday.
Fort Wayne took the lead in the first when it crossed the plate for three runs, including a single by Blake Hunt that scored Tucupita Marcano.
The TinCaps later scored in four more innings to put the game away, including three runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Agustin Ruiz hit an RBI single, driving in Dwanya Williams-Sutton, while Hunt hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Edwards in the seventh.
Fort Wayne left-hander Ryan Weathers (1-0) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. Opposing starter Jacob Heatherly (0-1) took the loss in the Midwest League game after giving up four runs and three hits over 2 2/3 innings.
Fort Wayne took advantage of some erratic Dayton pitching, drawing a season-high nine walks in its victory.
