HUMANE SOCIETY … The building that houses the Fulton County Humane Society, shown here, is currently for sale.

The current home for the Fulton County Humane Society is up for sale and is leaving the Humane Society looking for a new home. Steve and Tracy Wanner are the current owners of the building and have decided to sell in order to retire.
“We are getting too old for this. It is a lot of hard work, and we just can’t do it for much longer. Hopefully someone will buy the building with the purpose of keeping the humane society open,” said Tracy.
While Tracy hopes that a buyer will choose to keep the Humane Society open, it is not a condition of the sale. With over 50 animals still in the shelter, and over 50 currently in foster care, the race is on to find homes for the animals before a new owner comes to purchase the building.
“We do not want to have a lot of animals here when the time comes if the new owners have other plans for the building. We are trying to do what we can to find them all new homes before that happens, but it is exhausting,” said Tracy.
Currently, several board members and previous volunteers for the Humane Society are exploring all options to keep the organization going.
Jessica Miller, who is a Veterinarian at Healing Hearts Veterinary Care and a current board member, stated, “We as board members, as well as several volunteers, are doing everything we can to try and keep the organization going for the people of Fulton County.”
“We have a lot of community support, and it is a wonderful program for the county that needs to keep going,” said Jessica.
The plan for now is for the Humane Society to continue operating until an offer is made and accepted for the building. No timeframe is currently available for when that might be.
No information is currently available in regard to when and if the Humane Society will find a new location either.
With obvious support pouring out from the community, the Humane Society has a good deal of motivation to keep itself going, and hopefully it is able to do so.
