Glenn A. MohlerGlenn A. “Big Moe” Mohler, age 87, of Delta, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning August 16, 2016 at the Fulton County Health Center.  He was born in Delta on November 13, 1928 to the late Howard Mohler and Mae (Burkholder) Mohler.  Glenn graduated from Delta High School in 1947.  On October 3, 1948 he married the love of his life, Phyllis Ohlinger who survives.

Glenn worked at Allied Chemical for over 24 years before purchasing Big Moe’s Twist-T-Freez in Delta and operating it from 1971-1980.  Glenn created the Big Moe sandwich, which is still served today.  Later he and Jack Hartsell went into partnership and opened Moe/Jax Auto Repair in Delta.   After retiring, Moe and others were active in renovating the Open Door in Delta.  Glenn and the “Cardiac Crew” put in many long hours to establish its current location and building on Monroe St.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wauseon and a past Elder of the Delta Church of Christ.

Along with being a youth fellowship advisor with his wife; Moe’s love for baseball led him to help start the Delta Little League Baseball Program in the 1950’s.  He will always be remembered as a great coach and mentor for the Delta Little League and Pony League; along with Church League Softball.  Some of his most enjoyable hobbies included following Detroit Tigers baseball and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his brothers, Marion in 1978 and later Dick Mohler.

Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Mohler; children, Linda (Roger) Moden of Delta, Sandy (Dennis) Smith of Delta, Gary (Tracee) Mohler of Columbus and Bruce (Mary) Mohler of Delta; brother, Ken Mohler of Alabama; grandchildren, Jeremy (Cheryl) Moden, Joel (Becky) Moden, Justin (Ashley) Moden, Charity Smith, Jordan, Alex, Alyssa Mohler, Andrea (Andrew) Hesson, and Austin Mohler; great grandchildren, Madison, Carter, Benson, Parker, Kaelub, Xavier and one due in October.


Friends will be received from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St Hwy 109 in Delta.  A funeral service celebrating Glenn’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, 854 S. Shoop Ave., Wauseon, Ohio 43567.  Pastor John Shirley and Rev. Teresa Wenrick will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.
