Herman Riley “Butch” Shepard (1946-2013)

ButchShepard  WEBHerman Riley “Butch” Shepard, age 66, of Archbold, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo. Prior to his retirement in 2009 he had worked as a telephone technician for Century Link for 39 years.

Butch was born in Whiteville, North Carolina on August 11, 1946, the son of Herman E. and Neva L. (McLelland) Shepard. On August 21, 2010 he married Cheryl “Cherie” Sines, and she survives. He was a Navy Veteran of the Viet Nam War, where he served with the Seabee’s (Mobile Construction Battalion 7) and he was a member of the Archbold American Legion B.L.W. Post 311 and the Wauseon V.F.W. Post 7424.

Surviving is his wife, Cherie, are two step-daughters, Jeanne Burke of Paletine, Illinois, Alanna (Cory) Sindlinger of Santa Fe, New Mexico; three step-sons, Micah Burke of Stryker, Joshua (Angela) Burke of Toledo, and Caleb Burke of Florida, Ohio; six step-grandchildren; sister, Beverly (Charlie) Hartson of Wauseon; and two nephews, Chad and Lucas Hartson. He was preceded in death by both parents.

Memorial services will be held in the Chapel at Riverview Memory Gardens, near Defiance at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, where visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Pastor Adam Just will officiate the service and members of the Archbold American Legion B.L.W. Post 311 will conduct Military Rites. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Archbold American Legion Post. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com. Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with arrangements.
