Jack D. Latson (1925 – 2014)

InMemoryJack D. Latson, 88, Montpelier, OH passed away peacefully on December 10, 2014. Jack was born December 11, 1925, in Angola, IN to Guy and Ella (Noragon) Latson.

Jack is survived by his wife Mary of 62 years; three daughters, Debra (James) Petersen, Ann Spies, and Jo Dee (Daniel C.) Dean; three grandchildren, Dr. Jeffrey R. Spies, Daniel T. Dean, and Dr. Erin E. Spies; and his little dog Jac-E. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William and Thomas, and a sister, Lois Hoyer.

Jack was extremely proud of his military service to his country and was a member of the Montpelier Post 0109 American Legion. Jack served in the Army in WW II from 1945 to 1947 and in the Air Force in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. For his service to his country Jack was awarded a World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar, Good Conduct Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and a United Nations Service Medal.

After serving his country Jack served his community as a letter carrier in Montpelier from 1954 through 1980. During his time with the Post Office Jack also served as Assistant Post Master. Jack was also active in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5226 and served as Grand Knight in both 1966 and 1983. Jack was also an avid Notre Dame Football fan.

The family will hold a private mass at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a contribution to your favorite charity or Community Health Professionals – Hospice.
