An evening of great food, fellowship, and entertainment was held on Monday, February 19th at the Arrowhead Lodge Community building at Lake Seneca.

Approximately 100 people from the local lake community were in attendance. The event was for the “Playground Horsey’s, to Come Alive.”

The local beautification committee had taken on the project of getting the horses at the park refurbished and repainted to bring them up to date.

These horses were initially created and put at the park in 1965. Jenny Patterson Baker, who heads up the committee, opened the banquet with several nice comments.

The biggest challenge they had was to find volunteers to do the work by each one taking a horse and bringing it back to life along with giving it a name. The first one to do so was Jenny’s granddaughter Natalie Baker.

Jenny tells the story of how she was brought to tears when she saw the horse. As a young girl she always wanted a horse and every year would ask her parents for one during her younger days, but it never came about.

When she saw Natalie’s finished project, it was a palomino which was exactly what Jenny always wanted. As time progressed individuals volunteered to take on the responsibly for each horse.

One requirement was that they have an artistic background, and they all did. Their ages ranged from middle aged down to high school age.

The names of the “Horsey” painters are as follow: Ben Ahrendt, Natalie Baker, Cecelia Brower, Steven Brower, Laura Mitchell, Harlee Salazar, and Emma, Alysson and Alecia Szmanski.

As the evening progressed each one was asked to come up and unveil their fine work. All of the horses turned out to be a fantastic work of art.

The horses are scheduled to return to the park in the Coral as soon as the weather permits so children of all ages can once again enjoy them.

It was a very enjoyable evening for all and the spread of food and deserts was absolutely amazing along with all the great fellowship of this fine community.
