Local children from Metamora and the surrounding area were able to experience the Safety City class put on by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
The class was held at the Evergreen Library in Metamora and started on Monday, June 6th and continued through Thursday, June 9th.
Children were able to learn about different safety aspects ranging from seat belts to bullying. Each morning started out with children going over their addresses and parents phone numbers in case they were to ever get lost.
On Monday, after going over that information, the class discussed seat belts, when to call 911, how police officers are friends, bicycle safety with Deputy Alexa Miller, dog safety with retired Deputy Simon and poison control with Rachel Kinsman.
On Tuesday, the class went over to the Metamora Fire Department to go over fire and rescue safety with Chief Geer.
On Wednesday, gun safety was discussed with FCSO Major Smithmyer as well as electric safety with Scott Morris from Toledo Edison, tractor and farm safety from Gary Truckor and bullying from BJ Horner.
On Thursday, the class moved on to water safety with Sarah from the ODNR, pedestrian safety with walking around streets and school bus safety with Carrie from Evergreen.
At 11:00 a.m. the students graduated with each of them receiving a certificate from Sheriff Miller. Children were full of smiles throughout the week as each of them gained much needed knowledge.
