Brehm Lowell - pictureLowell H. Brehm, age 89, of Swanton, passed away Monday night, December 9, 2013 at his home “Sandland Farms, Inc”, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 15, 1924 to the late Harold and Stella (Eicher) Brehm. Lowell was raised on a farm in Fulton County and attended a one room school house for his first eight years of education. Lowell later attended Delta High School; where he was active in Vo Ag and received the State Farmers Award and graduated in 1942. In 1947 He took over the family farm of 120 acres after his father’s death. On June 23, 1951 he married Barbara Driver and continued to live on the farm milking 18 cows, raising tomatoes and performing general farming tasks. He continued to grow his farm, eventually adding his sons and forming Sandland Farms Inc, which continues today. Lowell and Barbara were life long members of the Fulton County Farm Bureau, the Lucky Seven F.B. Council and enjoyed many years with the Delta Skirts & Shirts Square Dance Club and over 60 years in the Card Club with three local couples. Lowell was active in local agricultural organizations and has at sometime been president of the Farm Bureau, Delta Elevator, County Dairy Service Unit, Soil & Water Conservation Committee and the Fulton County Farm Bureau Co-op Board along with a past president of the Delta Rotary Club. Lowell served on the State Board of DHIA and COBA and was elected to the Fulton County Farmer Hall of Fame. Lowell and Barbara were blessed with children, Gary (Jenny) Brehm, Gail (Thomas) Elton, Hal (Sara) Brehm; grandchildren, Jody (Said) Rukieh, John (Kimi) Elton, Craig (Nicole) Elton, Scott (Sarah) Elton, Erin (Greg) Clapp, Seth Brehm, Andrew Brehm, Nathan Brehm and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Calvin (Lee) Brehm of Archbold. In addition to his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2011; brothers, Leland and Merlyn Brehm and twin sister Lois (Ament). Friends may call 2-5 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta. Prior to the funeral, a graveside service for Lowell will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow at 12:00 Noon at Crossroads Evangelical Church, 845 Leggett St. in Wauseon. Pastor Matt Boyers will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to Gentiva Hospice, 1745 Indianwood Circle, Suite 200, Maumee, OH 43537 or the Delta Outreach, 104 Monroe St., Suite 1, Delta, Ohio 43515 in Lowell’s memory.
