(Worked At Edgerton Medical Clinic)

Martha Jane (Janie) Dietsch, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 7, 2024, surrounded by her family.

A life beautifully lived and deeply cherished, Janie leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that touched everyone she met.

Born on March 20, 1941, in Lansing, Michigan, Janie was the daughter of Ralph and Catherine (Pahl) Flegal.

She graduated from Angola High School in 1959 and pursued her passion for caregiving, earning her RN degree from Toledo Mercy School of Nursing in 1962.

Her dedication to her profession was evident in her time at Bryan Hospital and later at Edgerton Medical Clinic, where she formed lifelong, treasured friendships.

Embodying her generous spirit, Janie also volunteered for many years with Red Cross blood drives and engaged in the philanthropic work of Gamma Epsilon Sorority.

On December 27, 1962, Janie married Marvin Dietsch, beginning a union marked by unwavering love and partnership. Together, they built a life centered around family.

A member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Janie lived her beliefs and was a quiet model of faith for her friends and family. She served as a godmother to many and offered her love and prayers to those around her.

Janie’s happiest moments were when her home was filled with loved ones. Her welcoming nature was evident to anyone who entered, where a personal greeting on her back porch chalkboard always awaited. Whether offering a hot cup of tea or a kind ear at her kitchen counter, Janie had a unique way of making everyone feel valued and loved.

She was admired for her class and grace, approaching life with humility and a heart full of compassion. Her children and grandchildren knew her as the biggest cheerleader of their triumphs and a trusted confidant of their challenges.

With a warm smile and a twinkle in her eye, Janie delighted in punny wordplay and silly jokes. She especially loved tackling intricate puzzles with her grandchildren, which often opened the door to moments of terrific conversations.

Janie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She quietly guided her family and friends with her example. Described as “love personified,” she led with kindness and unconditional love.

Janie is survived by her husband, Marvin; her children Gregory (Teresa) Dietsch of Edgerton; Eric (Joni) Dietsch of Auburn, Indiana; Michelle (Brian) Almond of Eugene, Oregon; and Natalie Burkholder of Dublin, Ohio; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her siblings John (Pam) Flegal, Alan Flegal, Paul (Terri) Flegal, and Cheryl (Don) Bailey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son David Dietsch, and her brother Tom Flegal.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, from 2 PM to 7 PM at Krill Funeral Home, in Edgerton, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, December 14, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Edgerton, with Reverend Daniel Borgelt officiating.

Memorials can be made to Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Elara Caring hospice, and Visiting Angels Edgerton.

Janie’s memory will forever live in the hearts of those she loved. As she often ended her phone calls, we say to our dearest Janie, “Bye, for now.”
