Maynard Raker (1935-2021)

Maynard P. Raker, age 85, of Fayette, passed away early Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. He was born in Archbold on April 1, 1935, to Marion Paul and Isabel (Taylor) Raker.

He attended and graduated from Gorham-Fayette High School, and then served his country in the United States Army. On January 18, 2015, he married Vicki Schnitkey, and she survives.

He farmed and trained race horses his whole life. Maynard was a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, the Indiana Harness Horsemen’s Association and the United States Trotting Association.

When he wasn’t farming or training horses, he loved to spend time with his family and have coffee at the round table at Smith’s Restaurant in Wauseon.

Surviving besides his wife, Vicki, are daughters, Pam (Carl) Farough, Annette (Scott) Whitmer, Kimberly (Brad) Nofziger, and Mara (Matthew) Hoadley; son, Mike Raker; grandchildren, Kevin (Erin) Raker, Ashley (Matthew) Thorn, Erin (Aric) Young, Caden, Grahm, and Mila Nofziger, and Aria Hoadley; and great-grandchildren, Jameson Raker and Tatum and Scarlett Young.


He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister; Luella Christianson.

A memorial service for Maynard will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at 2:00 P.M., at Fayette Christian Church.  Pastor Mary Jo Bray will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until time of service.

Memorial gifts in Maynard’s memory may be offered to Gorham-Fayette Fire Department. Online condolences to the family may be offered at www.eaglemarryfuneralhome.com.


The Eagle-Marry Funeral Home – Fayette Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
