Mildred E. Walkup (1920 – 2013)

OBIT - WALKUPMildred E. Walkup, 93, of Pioneer passed away late Sunday night at her home. She was born on September 2, 1920 in Muncie, Indiana to Wayne O. and Lucille (McKinley) Cook. Mildred was raised by Carl and Deliah Cook. She graduated from Pioneer High School in 1938, and then earned her Secretary’s degree from Davis Business College in Toledo, Ohio. On February 6,

1943 she married Richard Walkup and he survives.

Mildred was a homemaker and a devoted Bridgewater Township farmer’s wife. During WW II she worked at an auto dealership in Toledo. She was a former member of the North Bridgewater Church of God.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Richard; two sons, Richard (Thelma) Walkup and Robert (Stacey) Walkup all of Pioneer; one daughter Linda (Robert) Kidston of Pioneer; nine grandchildren Alex (Terra) Kidston, Zack (Kelsie) Kidston, Lizzy Kidston, Steve (Angi) Walkup, Nicky Walkup, Ron Walkup, Ben (Laura) Walkup, Ed (Michele) Walkup and Sally (Paul) Paepke; seventeen great grandchildren; and two half sisters Janet and Sue.


Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Martha Poorman; two brothers Cecil and Bill Cook; two half brothers, Tom and Alan McDaniels; the family that raised her, Carl and Deliah Cook and their sons Leland and Norman Cook.

Visitation for Mildred will be Wednesday December 18th from 4-8pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. Services will be on Thursday at 11am, at the funeral home with Pastor Darold Beck to officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer. Donations may be made to the Williams County Veterans Memorial Building or Community Health Professionals Hospice of Williams County.
