Looking ahead to the looming retirement of Pam Lucas, the Village of Montpelier has hired her replacement.

And they didn’t have to look far.

The Village Council voted to accept a signed offer of agreement with Kevin Brooks, currently the village administrator at Edgerton. Brooks will come on board May 2 as deputy manager until Lucas retires and will then be promoted to manager.

Mayor Steve Yagelski made the recommendation at the April 11 meeting. The village received several applications and interviewed several qualified candidates, he said.

Brooks was at the meeting and thanked the council for its vote of confidence.

In other news:
The council approved the purchase of a 2017 Ford Interceptor SUV from Statewide Ford Lincoln in Van Wert. The purchase was through the state contract.

The purchase is not to exceed $36,000 and there is $37,000 budgeted for the vehicle. The new car will replace a 2007 or 2008 Crown Victoria, the police chief said.
