Orlene E. Mason, age 80 years, of Archbold passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019, in Bradenton, FL. Orlene Stucky was born and raised on a farm near Archbold, Ohio.

She graduated from Goshen College in Indiana with a nursing degree.  After working in Elkhart, Indiana and Denver, Colorado, she worked in a clinic in northern Haiti for two years. She returned to the U. S. and located in Cleveland, Ohio working as an ER nurse.

There she met Walter E. (“Mike”) Mason. They married February 24, 1974.  She became wife and mother in one moment. Orlene guided three teens (2 daughters and a son) to adulthood

When Mike retired from the Coast Guard and took a position in Detroit, they moved to Grosse Ile, Michigan. During that time, she was an active member of St. Thomas Church.

In 1992, they moved to the farm she was raised on. Orlene enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, planting, and caring for trees, preserving fruits and produce. She volunteered in her church and community, and she was an active member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church.

Orlene and Mike spent time in Florida during the past 20 years. They traveled extensively, making cruises to the Bahamas and Hawaii among many others. They enjoyed local trips and picked local produce in Florida as well. Orlene was a gracious and loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by many.

Orlene is preceded in death by her father, John Stucky, mother Bertha Stucky and a son, Michael Eric Mason. She is survived by her husband Walter E. Mason, daughters Jeanette Dodson and Laura Mason, 5 grandsons, 1 great-grandson, sisters Annabelle Lerch and Louise Rudo and brother Allen Stucky.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 11AM at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Archbold with Pastor Paul Reichert officiating. Interment will precede at 9:30 AM in the Lockport Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 2-8PM on Monday. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.
