Paul J. Arnos, 91, rural Stryker, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Lutheran Home in Napoleon. Prior to his retirement, he had been a lifelong area farmer.
Paul was born in Defiance County, Ohio on May 31, 1921, the son of Frederick and Frieda (Wesche) Arnos. On December 1, 1946 he married Esther Schumacher, and she preceded him in death in 2008. Together they were blessed with two children and lived a busy, productive life on the family farm in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of US 6 and State Route 66, Stryker, where he had been President of the Congregation, the Sunday School Superintendent and had also been a teacher. He was also active with the choir and held numerous offices within the church. Paul was on the board of directors for the Ridgeville Telephone Company, and had been active with the Lutheran Laymen’s League. Paul enjoyed Dartball.
Surviving is one son, David (Karen) Arnos of Stryker; one daughter, Marilyn (Peter) Heintz of Orland Park, Illinois; three grandsons, Michael (Elizabeth) Arnos of Oxford, OH, Matthew (Hannah) Arnos of Stryker, Christopher (Lauren) Arnos of Grand Rapids, MI; one step-grandson, James (Theresa) Heintz of Boulder City, NV; twin great-grandsons, Evan and Brady Arnos; one great-granddaughter, Elsie Arnos; one brother, John (Doris) Arnos of Ridgeville Corners, and one sister-in-law, Margaret Arnos of Defiance. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; both parents; and one brother, Elmer Arnos.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 13, 2012 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dale Kern, officiating. Interment followed in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Friends called at the Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold on Wednesday. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Worship for Shut-Ins, The St. John Lutheran Expansion Fund, or the St. John Lutheran Stained Glass Fund.
