  1. This story was followed by my wife and I in North Carolina. Linda Wurns is a very close friend of ours. We worked with her at AVI Food Systems when we lived in Ohio. We could not be any prouder of our friend and hope to be in Ohio next year to help with this project. There are many people that can learn alot of from her and whenever she puts her mind to something, its wide open go! We are saving all the clothes, coats and shoes we no longer wear to give to her. She is a miracle worker in our eyes.

  2. An outstanding share! I have just forwarded this onto a friend who was doing a little research on this.
And he actually ordered me breakfast due to the fact that I
found it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this….
Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending the time to discuss this issue here on
    your web page.

I am so pleased you wrote the article on Mr.Kerr. I admire his determination, courage and drive to follow his dream. He gives credit to his hometown and mentioned some of his teachers who influenced him. My daughter also is following her dream and she also gives credit to her home town and the profound effect some of the teachers in Wauseon had on her. Wauseon be proud of your town and be thankful for our teachers. Be aware of whoever you are that you too can have a influence on the children and adults in Wauseon. A simple hello, a wave or a smile, maybe something you say may be the catalyst to motivate someone to pursue their dreams. Sincerely, Diane Freytag

  4. As a next door neighbor we watched KBob grow into such a fine young man. Such a sweet smile, I can see it yet. He was always willing to help this “old couple next door” if we needed. He was a special young man and our hearts go out to the family.

  5. Larry Bunting | January 23, 2014 at 2:40 pm |

As a neighbor of both his grandparents and parents as well as a teacher, I saw Kaleb almost daily. He was a hardworking, fun loving, young man that was always willing to help out and give of his time. Kaleb loved tinkering and tools as much as FFA and his involvement. He was a great kid! We may think was taken from earth too soon, but obviously God had bigger plans. His gift of organ donation is beyond wonderful as is his parents and families pride. He blessed us all.

My sincere condolences go to Lyle’s family. Having moved away after college to Cleveland, southern Indiana, and finally Michigan, I lost track of so many I knew from Long-Strawser (one-room country) school. Lyle’s brother, Rex, Gladys Sheets and I went through grades 1 through 8 as classmates. Lyle was always well-liked and a joy to know in school. May God bless his family and friends and help them through this difficult time of mourning.

I realize that some people do go away for Spring break and cancelling it would be a problem but those families can just make up that work for the week. That’s what you do if you take a break any other time during the year. I think as it is the kids have way too many days off for odd and ends as it is.

  8. Billie Miller | February 5, 2014 at 1:38 pm |

Personally I think Martin Luther King day and Presidents day should not be scheduled as days off. This would give 2 extra days at the end of the year if needed. This has been a crazy winter here in Northwest Ohio and although I do not like the idea of the kids having to make up all the days they will have to I do think the administration has made VERY wise decisions about cancelling school. I have had to drive to work many of the mornings school was cancelled and I am very thankful my kids were not on school buses. The roads have been horrible. At first I thought the blizzard bags were a great idea but after watching my child start them I thought they were RIDICULOUS the time my child spend trying to make up this work was more than she would have spent in a class room for the entire week, let alone 1 day. Most of her teachers found a reasonable balance but 2 of them went absolutely crazy with the amount of homework in the blizzard bags. As a parent …not worth it, let them make the day up…no way a teacher could teach that material in 1 period!!! As a suggestion though I would also encourage the administration to use 3 hour delays for fog days early in the year. I think the kids missed a day or 2 because of fog. Most of the time a 3 hour delay would be enough for the fog to lift and the kids to be able to attend school, saving those days for winter weather.

Shelley, Zak & Maegan, This has been a terrible shock to you. It does get better. The Lord is with you. We knew the kids, especially Zak. We live on the corner of N. Fayette and Allen Sts. Zak would stop and talk quite a bit. They are both delightful kids, though they’re grown by now. You worked with my sister-in-law, Ruthann, at FCHC. Trust in the Lord, He will take care of you. I am so proud to have become a part of this community. The love and support these kids share each other is astounding. I have seen first hand how welcoming the Fayette kids are to each other and to newcomers. I love this community!

I use to ride with uncle Seymore on the turnpike. I would ride my bike down from Kunkle and and see what was going on, then uncle Seymore would day you want to go for a ride what a great time. He would talk on the radio checking on his crews . Well if a Beck is in charge of the Kunkle section of the turnpike it is still on good hands

Of all these years ohio has not let rifles into the woods for a good reason , but now it appears the seasoned veterans of odow that were of wise nature have retired , unfortunately it appears wisdom has vanished , rifles have never had a place in the ohio woods now , nor have they ever , high powered muzzleloaders are bad enough , as a local citizen and avid hunter speaking for everyone that i have polled , as for our area we are holding you accountable for the increased danger you are putting in the woods, any and all incidents involving rifle calibers that can ,and we feel will happen in 2014-2015 ohio deer season we feel you should be held accountable for in this dangerous decision.

I am thankful that we have “enough”. Enough food that we don’t go hungry. Enough money that we can pay our day-to-day bills. That even though there are health problems, that they are able to be managed.
We don’t live a life of luxury, which most likely is why I can appreciate having “enough”.

i got pissed at the fair board several years ago when i competed at the fair with my produce from my garden. i won a dozen ribbons. and in the fairboard book the date was in error for the pickup of entries and ribbons. i showed up one day late to discover my pickled items were in the dumpster and my ribbons were stolen. the board even gave me the wrong cash prize for my efforts. took the fairbook to the office and was reissued ribbons and the proper amount in my check. i went the the next fairboard meeting. protested my dispute and promtly was tossed out on my ass by a couple of big farm men. went home and tossed many blue and red ribbons in the trash. havent been back to the fair since. i do walk at the fairgounds and see the many buildings that are decaying and not being maintained. i realize that our fair only occurs once a year but over the past few years its more of a discrace than a social event….carl

These super HEROS are Gods gift to all that they serve….they put their lives on the line for everyone and then they do things like this without wanting the recognition or publicity for themselves as they say it is all for Jax….May god Bless them for what they have done and for what they will continue to do for all. They are truly HEROS.

  139. I thought the sheriffs office was called to stop him from killing himself and then you killed him. Why did you show up? If you feared for your life why didn’t you get back and out of range and call his family, his hospice doctor or a mental health professional? You had all day to calm the situation down but in 20 minutes you shot and killed him. He had a mental illness that day and your answer was to get close, surround him with guns pointing at him and kill him. He was sick. I’m confused. Why did you show up? To kill him or to save his life? Seems like a big bad decision. At what time are we going to stop killing sick people and really help them? You need a lot more training because the department that was to help him guy killed . Don’t call 911 if someone you know is thinking of taking their own lives because they will kill him. Maybe its time they look at their procedures to save them instead of killing them.

  140. And by “ditch” they mean stream. We have straightened these meandering streams to speed up the timetable for getting floodwater off of agricultural lands. This reduces the stress to crops and saves some of them. The trade-off? A tremendous loss of biodiversity within the streams themselves and more water speed/volume when the biggest floods occur. As our friends in West Virginia can attest this week, each time you modify nature there is a heavy price to pay.

Several years ago I had the distinct privilege of having Chanelle as one of my students. Remembering back to that year I was blessed to be able to be a small part of her life. Chanelle was always a soft spoken child who had those eyes which could draw you in immediately. She often spoke of her family and how much she loved them, especially her daddy, grandma Joyce and aunt Sarah. I knew each of her family members impacted her life lovingly. She always enjoyed the family gatherings and would share her stories with me. It brought a smile to my heart. I’m so thankful Chanelle chose to ask Jesus to be the Savior of her life. I take comfort knowing she is spending eternity in heaven because of her decision. Thank you grandma Joyce for your sacrificial love for your precious grandchildren.

  148. Thank you for this article. I find agriculture very interesting. Sometimes I feel like it could be really easy! Of course, I know that’s naive of me to think that, but it seems simple. My father just bought a plot of land and now he has to learn all about his field’s drainage system. He says it’s getting complicated fast. Thank you again for the insights!

  149. Also, with the hot summer days dont leave your dog tied up, chained up, locked up in the heat. Any dog confined by a lead must have shade and fresh water in addition to shelter and daily fresh food. Or better yet, bring them in to where u are enjoying the ac! Keep them groomed so their coat is not thick and matted. Keep them up to date on flea control and vaccinations. And of course neutered! All of this makes them better pets.

A baby pool with daily fresh water is great for water dogs.

And last of all….dont put your dog in your car no matter where u are going unless uts to the vets! They cook in a hot car pretty fast and as of this week, the new state law allows concerned citizens to break in to save a child or pet in a hot car! While u are shopping at Walmart, your dog is Dying. Leave them home in a cool room or tied up in the shade w water and shelter.

And put a tag on your pet that has your phone number and dogs name on it. Then the dog can be returned directly to you!

Its horrible that the schools have become the newest battle grounds instead of it being an safe learning enviroment.Futhermore it take more safety measures and help from the parents, community and the staff to try keep an eye for possible armed persons.Maybe then some of this sorta happenings could have been prevented.

Maybe the sheriffs officers could of called Montpelier and had them put up road blocks. The guy fleeing might of blown through the light even if he wasn’t being chased. I honestly dont think he should of been chased ,putting other people’s lives in danger. He wasnt a hardened criminal. I believe they even knew who it was.

Any Cougar conflict issue, is a human caused conflict issue.

Before media and the hound hunters hyperventilate, let’s recall that the Nation’s pet domestic dogs kill or cripple more humans annually than any species known, besides humans.

We have encroached on the vital ecological services and home of the cougar. Cougars have adapted to their environment with a unique ability to see at night, but they cannot identify deer from a mountain biker.

Cougars see like a bad pixel day on your computer.

DO NOT allow the media, hound hunters, sports hunters, Safari Club International trophy hunters to manipulate you with fear and misinformation.

The bikers did the right thing and the cougar left. But then they did a stupid thing and ran like a scared deer.

Grass clippings placed knowingly upon a roadway by highway crew or individual land owner causing potentialp hazardous or unsafe road condition is illegal!
Who does not have the common sense how to mow a lawn??
A bicyclist, automobile, 2 & 3 wheel motorcycles, rescue vehicle, law vehicle etc could be caused to swerve and wrecked at normal speed , especially if it is wet! Intentional repeated littering to cause a likely hazardous condition warrants a citation for causing g potentially safe road conditions !
How difficult is this to understand?

Any driver in America needs to know this!

  264. Virginia Ganster | August 16, 2018 at 3:04 pm |

This is absolutely covered in the statute listed above, which is why the wording of the statute was specifically left open with “other injurious substance”.

I can understand a reluctance to prosecute when no accident or injury has resulted. A small amount of grass clippings probably represents no hazard at all, where a significant amount would be hazardous to both motorcycles and cars , especially at intersections or on curves. Still, how does one determine the point at which grass in the roadway becomes hazardous?

That said, it is still a significant problem that bears addressing. It’s certainly something for which warnings could be issued under the state law. Definitely recourse should be more than civil if an injury results. It is, at least, criminally negligent to create a condition in which someone else could be injured. The statute doesn’t address intent, so it doesn’t matter whether the person who left the hazardous material on the roadway had an intent to allow someone else to get hurt, only that they “knowingly placed” the material there.

All of the above aside, why in the world do so many people do this in the first place? It looks horrible. The purpose of mowing and maintaining lawns is to make them look nice, so it doesn’t make sense to do that in a way that looks bad. You run the risk of directly hitting a passerby with debris from the lawn mower, which is also a situation with possible criminal and civil penalties. Additionally, grass clippings can clog up drainage systems, which they are more likely to get to if they are blown into the road.

It’s a bad idea all around, so it would be nice if an article taking the time to clarify that it may not be explicitly prohibited could also spent a few moments addressing how potentially dangerous and rude it is to do, as well.

There are many hazards when operating any motor vehicle. In the fall you will have fallen leaves on the roadway. You must be vigilant in seeing these hazards. Gravel and dirt or sand are always present so slow down on all road ways. Be responsible when you drive and don’t always blame others for your riding or driving skills.

  269. FORD donated more campaign money AGAINST TRUMP then almost any other business in the United States. I bought Fords since I was 16 and I now 67. NEVER AGAIN. So this doesn’t surprise me. Ford only cares about greed and not the American people. They have no allegiance to us.

  270. Looks like law to me!

Bruce and others have clearly shown the intent of the law which is to protect personal property but also to protect its citizenry from injuries. I suggest Fulton Co, vote in a Sheriff with some guts to charge people and get a prosecutor that is aggressive and put this law in the courts to validate the issue, instead they hide behind past cases where other lazy fools didn’t want to do the paperwork.

  278. AP is doing click bait headlines now?

In what way is the person mentioned “inked” to the Mueller probe?

Having disclosed data on three individuals (of which two were not merely charged, but convicted) indicted by Mueller is not “linkage.”

If there is some sort of linkage beyond playing Six Degrees of Robert Mueller, you need to correct your article to include it.

As it stands, you are left with a headline seemingly intended to imply wrongdoing by members of Mueller’s team, by spurious linkage of an unrelated party.

That goes beyond incompetence straight to bias and deceit.

  279. The spokesperson for the Caravan was speaking ENGLISH as if he was brought up in USA. Really? Ok. How dumb. How absurd. This is pathetic. Desperate. Dangerous. Delusional. And one guy on Caravan said F USA? Really? Really? You want us to accept people who haven’t even got here when they’re saying F USA? OMG…lol…you idiots who support these gangsters and low IQ losers from a 3rd world country are clueless.

Another right foot pedal error, part of the right foot braking epidemic? If so let’s make sure we blame the driver, especially if they are a women or old (over 40!). Never blame the guys in charge of driver legislation and training who set the driver up to fail. They forced this driver to brake an automatic transmission vehicle with only the right foot. They did this knowing they had 0 Scientific Justification and that right foot braking is too complicated and difficult to mentally maintain with age, dangerously inefficient, (poor stopping distance) and even more dangerous, (subject to right foot pedal error) compared to the simpler and safer (But girly!) left foot braking method. See DOT HS 811 597, 812 058 and 812 431 (spaces required). NHTSA refuses to use the term “right foot pedal errors” but instead calls it “pedal misapplication” and always blames the drivers for not being experts. Score to date, 150,000 dead (19 Every Day), millions injured, and billions in costs. The price male drivers, both in and out of government, are prepared to pay to maintain their systemic belief in a “Killer” braking method based on the scientific foundation of, “That’s the way it’s always been taught”! This is not about which braking method is safer but rather why they refuse to scientifically compare the two methods and continue to produce misinformation about other proposed braking methods. Was it driver error or the way we taught them to brake?

Why is it the government feels the need to tax a major need of the working class. Gas prices are high enough. Maybe if the money was being taken out of the government officials pockets it wouldn’t be as much of a necessity to tax how the working class get to work to pay for all the, what I feel are, wasteful entitlements.

  357. Fact check! Toledo police nor Toledo firefighters found the 2 young men, the ones that are suppose to protect and serve our city left those young men down on the bank of the creek. One of the young men’s family went looking for them after friends said they couldn’t get in touch with them.
Toledo police department never even notified the parents of either young men that they were in an accident. The news reported there was an accident but no bodies were found in the car. Family member went to the accident sight and called 911 when they found the vehicle was theirs involved in the accident. The family found their son in the front seat of the car, authorities left those young men and didn’t check the car!

Paul is a very kind and patient soul. I had the privilege of getting to know him when I worked at the license bureau in Wauseon. I issued his father’s last driver license and saw the kindness that Paul came from. Good man!

Sorry to hear this I knew Phyllis from school was a friend from long ago.

  361. Mr barnaby, there’s no words that could ever explain the compassion, caring, and his ability to calm someone who had just lost there father !! The day they showed my father the principal of evergreen high school walked into the funeral home and counted the students whom were supposed to be at school . I was so mad that mr bassilyass! Had the nerve to show up to my father’s funeral and count the students and turn around and walk out!! My first thought was wrong I was ready to follow him out that door and teach him a lesson my older brother at the time grabbed me and said let it go for now!!so the following day I went to see Mr barnaby and we sat in talked and his kind words and compassion is the only thing that saved that principle! I’ll treasure mr barnaby until the day the good lord calls me home and wish there were more people in the WORLD that were like Mr barnaby

The United States was founded on Jesus. You have freedom of religion here. Although if she cannot conform to the Christian ways, she should not have run for office. You swear to uphold the Constitution wether it be foreign or domestic. She is a domestic threat, plain and simple. She needs to be “Impeached” if that is what you call it in the house.

    Lisa,
So sorry to hear about Scott’s passing. I did not even know that he was in Hospice, or sick for that matter. Goes to show how out-of-the-loop I am, I guess. Scott was always interested in doing his best and learning more about design work while at Keenan. It was refreshing to have someone who was truly interested in working with the toolmakers to solve problems.

You have my condolences for your loss, and if there is anything I can do to help, please be sure to let me know!

What a sweet lady. We had so many conversations at Chief Supermarket. She invited me to come and listen to her sing one day. I was so impressed with her beautiful voice and the complete joy she showed while she was singing. I have not seen her in quit a long time but always wondered how she was getting along. God bless her family as they walk through these difficult days.

I hope the people of Ohio are not stupid enough to mess with how the electoral college vote it set up. If you were to see a map of how we lose our power as a state when we mess with this, you would not want to do it. Do a Google search of “ramireztoon AND electoral college”, and you can see for yourself.

Ron was a great friend I remember him well, and when he married Rickii. God bless and comfort you at this difficult time.

  386. The downside of this is a negative for all persons and animals and birds. Where 5G was working all birds died in flight around the area of the transmitter of the 5G. Human beings work on a frequency that is disrupted by those super high 5G waves. Face it we have reached a little over the line with 4G… let us not try to test our bodies with 5G until testing is done on the consumer side.

Jerry and Brian, I’m thinking of you guys, Tony put up with a lot of me being around when the store moved to Wauseon! I always felt welcome around him though. Quite a few great memories of him fishing, or IDing a snake for the sherries department!

  388. About 2008 I saw one laying dead along the south side of 75 between Vanderbilt and Gaylord for a few weeks. Late fall, when we had snow on the ground. There’s nothing that big and that color with a LONG TAIL except a courgar

  393. Connie Salisbury | September 3, 2019 at 9:23 pm |

Condolences and prayers for all of you. The death of a child is overwhelming and difficult to comprehend. No words can eliminate your pain, but please know I am available anytime to spend time with all of you. Communicating with those who have dealt with this complete devastation, is healthy. Allow time to grieve and never let others tell you how you should feel, act, think or move on with your life. Your heartache is real and your fractured heart will always be tender.

I believe this is a good thing. Students being bullied will feel safer. The students have to realize he is there to help stop trouble before it get out of control. He is there friend. He needs to become someone they can talk to about things they are uncomfortable talking to other adults about. I believe resource officers can save lives & help students feel safer in their school. The only thing a student should be worrying about in school is learning. They need to be taught that if they even think someone is a threat to anyone in there school talk to their resource office.
