The Wauseon Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, November 8th, to celebrate Aviña’s Barbershop, located at 210 Depot Street in Wauseon.

Owner Anthony Aviña, a Wauseon native and Pettisville High School graduate, officially opened the shop earlier this year in March. After eight years in the industry, Aviña decided the time was right to open a space of his own.

“My buddy bought the buildings and said he had a spot for the shop,” Aviña explained. “It was time. I wanted a shop where people could go as a getaway, a guy hangout. I think I got it so far. Everyone comes in, watches football games, and talks sports, and just has a good time.”

Aviña’s Barbershop offers men’s and kids’ haircuts, straight razor shaves, hot towel treatments, and even facials.

Aviña shared that his goal was to create more than just a barbershop, he wanted to build a place where friendships and memories could grow. “I’ve cut little kids’ hair since they were little, and now they’re grown men. It’s cool to see,” he said.

Born and raised in Wauseon, Aviña expressed deep appreciation for the support he has received from the community. “It’s a great community. Everyone’s been helpful, it’s like family. I consider my customers family,” he said.

He described the shop as a comfortable and welcoming space for all ages. “We’re all respectful men here, and it’s a good spot for families. We hit every age group and cut all kinds of hair,” Aviña noted.

Looking back on his journey, Aviña said the realization of his dream has been both humbling and rewarding. “The last eight years have been a dream of mine.

“I couldn’t do this without my family. My wife and kids are probably my biggest supporters. The other day I was sitting here at night, and it hit me, it’s pretty cool.”

The Wauseon Chamber of Commerce joined Aviña and his family to officially welcome Aviña’s Barbershop to the downtown business community.
