Veteran

Richard “Dick” Wonderly II, age 72, of Las Vegas (originally from Bryan, Ohio), passed away on March 1, 2024, following a valiant battle with cancer. Born on Oct. 12, 1951, in New Haven, Indiana, he was the son of the late Richard and Dorothy Wonderly.

Richard leaves behind his wife, Julie (Hollstein); son, Richard “RC” Wonderly III; and wife, Alexandra (Nikolich); beloved granddaughter, Fiala “Fia” Dixon Wonderly, who provided him comfort, cheer, and pride for the last 10 months; and surrogate grandson, Rhett (son of Toby and Alison Hutchison). He is also survived by Wonderly cousins in Indiana and their families, along with Julie’s siblings, Ford (and wife Darlene), Randy, Callie, and Becky (and husband Paul) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard completed high school in Frankfort, Germany, following his enlistment in the U.S. Army, and served in Vietnam with the 75th Ranger Regiment, 2nd Battalion.

In 1974, he relocated to Bryan to study at Northwest State Community College, where he met his wife, Julie. Known for his infectious smile and sociability, Richard was a man who never met a stranger.

He cherished his time with family and friends, fishing, kayaking, weightlifting, running, coaching his son’s baseball and soccer teams, and investing in the stock market.

A public service, with military honors, is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. on April 4, 2024, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.

Donations in Richard’s memory can be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice (Tenaya Facility) in lieu of flowers.
