Robert Daso Greek (1917 – 2015)

Robert Daso Greek WEBRobert Daso Greek, 97, of Montpelier, passed away on Thursday March 5, 2015 at Community Hospital and Wellness Center in Bryan. He was born on November 30, 1917 in Kunkle, Ohio to Ford and Mamie (Daso) Greek. On December 25, 1951 he married Mildred Briner and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2001.

Bob worked summers at Greek Motor Sales until he graduated from Kunkle High School in 1935. After graduating he worked full time at the dealership. On February 3, 1941 he was inducted into the Army and was assigned to Ohio’s 37th Infantry Division. The Division was shipped to the South Pacific and committed to combat in the New Georgia Islands where he was wounded. He was returned to the United States and assigned to the 69th Infantry Division. He went to Europe with the 69th and served with the Division which made the first contact with the Russians at the Elbe River and the ending of the war in Europe. He was discharged from the Army in July 1945 and returned to work at Greek Motor Sales until the closing of his business in 1979. Bob then worked for Lindsey-Jones, Lou Witte Ford and the Siebenaler Equipment until retiring in 1983.

Bob attended Kunkle United Brethren Church from childhood. During his membership he served as an assistant Sunday School teacher, an assistant Class Leader and as Secretary of the Board of Trustees. He was a life member of the Bryan V.F.W., the Bryan American Legion and the 37th Division Veteran Affairs.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred Greek, sister, Betty Greek and brother, Howard Greek. He is survived by two nieces, Catherine Bockover of Titusville, FL and Judy (Robert) Hartman of Bryan; two nephews, Bradley (Nancy) Greek of St. Paris, OH and Jeffery (Aimee) Greek of Austin, TX; 8 great nieces and nephews and 12 great great nieces and nephews.


A visitation will be held on Monday March 9, 2015 from 4-8 pm at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home, 335 Empire Street Montpelier. Funeral services will be the following morning, Tuesday March 10, 2015 at 10 am at the Kunkle United Brethren Church, Kunkle, OH with Pastor Ron Evans to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier with military rites presented by the Bryan Veterans.
