Susann Henderson Raschke, formerly of Adrian, MI, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at her home in Columbus, OH. Preceded in death by husband, Herbert who died in February 1973; father, Samuel Catlin Henderson, Step-father, Raymond Taulker, mother, Lucille Rogers Taulker, and brother, Bill Henderson. Susann was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Columbus where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, Usher, Greeter and also as a member of the Church Social Ministry Committee, Worship and Music Committee and one of the coordinators of the church’s Blook Mobile Program. Franklin County Red Cross Volunteer serving as Canteen Coordinator. Former member of Parkmoor School PTA Executive Board heading the Block Parent’s Organization in 1973. Life member of Howe Military School (Howe, IN) Mother’s Association. Served as Company Mother in 1976. Member of Civil Air Patrol, United States Air Force Auxiliary, with the rank of Captain. Assigned to Ohio Wing Headquarters, Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base where her duties had been as Associate Editor of the Ohio Wing Newspaper, Internal Affairs Officer of the Aerospace program and Public Affairs Officer. Previously she was assigned to the Columbus Northwest Composite Squadron 806 where her duties were as Deputy Commander of Cadets, Administrative Officer, Finance Officer and Public Affairs Officer. She was an Associate member of the Ohio Valley of Telephone Pioneers of America. Former resident of West Unity, Ohio and member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Montpelier, Ohio where she was active as Sunday School teacher for 5 years, Bible School Superintendent 4 years, member of Shepherd Committee, Evangelism Committee, Stewardship, Christian Education and Finance Committees. Director of Music for Presbyterian Church, Montpelier, 4 years and Director of Music for St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2 years. Member of Williams County General Hospital Auxiliary, 6 years. Organized West Unity Chapter of Mother of Twins Club and served as their first president. Member of American Legion Auxiliary, Post 669, having joined in November 1957 at West Unity, OH where she served as Vice President 2 years and Unit President for 2 years. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 239 in Worthington, Ohio. Member of Williams County Council of American Legion Auxiliary 5 years serving in all officer positions and retiring as President in 1964. First District Junior Activities Chairman of the Auxiliary 1964-65 and First District Rehabilitation Chairman 1966-1967. She served on the faculty of Buckeye Girl’s State (Music Department) in 1965. Member of West Unity Parent Teachers Association serving as Secretary for 2 years. She completed 25 years of choir and solo work in 1964. Member of the Navy Mothers (Wives) Club and USO during WWII. Graduate of Bellevue High School, Bellevue, OH where she was active in numerous school activities, receiving school letters in music and aquatics. She composed the words to her class graduation song and also for other family members upon their graduation. She loved writing poetry and several of her poems have been published.
