Thomas Wyse (1948 – 2023)

Thomas D. Wyse, age 75, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Fairlawn Nursing Home in Archbold, OH.

He was born on January 1, 1948 to Mahler and Virgie (Schmucker) Wyse in Wauseon, Ohio. Tom was a 1965 graduate of Stryker High School. On January 1, 1971 he married Dawn Hitt, who preceded him in death on May 29, 2022.

Tom was actively involved in the Stryker community where he served on the school board, kept scorebook for 20 years as well as coached and officiated basketball.


He was a member of Archbold Evangelical Church and enjoyed playing church league basketball for many years.

Tom transitioned from working on his family farm to working with his father-in-law, Bud Hitt, at Hit Trophy. He eventually took ownership of the family business and had a 54-year career doing what he loved.

Tom was well known in the community not only as a businessman, but a devoted husband and father. He would help anyone in need.


Many will remember Tom for his famous homemade ice cream, day-old cheese and homemade pies.

Tom is survived by his two children: Abraham (Angela) Wyse of Defiance,  and Tiffany (Ryan) Heller of Bryan; four grandchildren: Mila, Silas, Kyle and Karter; and four siblings: Dana Stalter of Nappanee, IN, Jeannie (Allen) Stuckey of Goshen, IN, Edwin (Joyce) Wyse of West Unity and Anne Bok (Mike Towne) of Stryker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, a son Frankie, a brother, Philip “Fox” Wyse., and brother-in-law, Larry Stalter.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 11-6 PM at Archbold Evangelical Church. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 8, at 11:00 with Pastor Dave Nicholls, officiating at the church. Burial will take place at Lockport Mennonite Church prior to the service.


Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Gideon’s International and Archbold Evangelical Church.
