Verl Lavon Morningstar, 85, of rural Fayette, went to be with his Lord Thursday afternoon, February 9, 2017, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. Born September 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Walter and Lena (Marzolf) Morningstar. He married Patricia Ann Borton on June 21, 1958, his beloved partner for more than 58 years.

Verl, a lifelong resident of Fayette, was the 25-year owner and operator of Verl’s Saw Shop near Harrison Lake. Prior to that he and Pat raised turkeys for S&W Turkey Farm, and he farmed and raised his own various livestock. For 15 years, he and Pat also operated a retail greenhouse on their farm.

Verl enjoyed hatching eggs, woodworking, tinkering with his saw mill, and was skilled at small engine repair. Verl, along with his wife, attended the New Life Baptist Church near Addison, MI.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Pat, are their children, Paul Morningstar (and Pam Holley) of Fayette, Teresa Morningstar of Orlando, FL, and Bryce Morningstar of Orlando; his brother, Loren (Eleanor) Morningstar of Morenci, MI; sister, Eleanor Myers of Fayette; two granddaughters, Amy Smith of KY and Felicia Nofziger (and Tom Mclellan) of Swanton, OH; five grandchildren, Valerie, Carter, Lincoln, Kaylin, and Seger; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Verl was preceded in death by a sister, Lorena Babb.

A funeral service for Verl will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fayette Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Matthew SeGraves officiating. Burial will follow in the Lauber Hill Cemetery near Archbold. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday afternoon, from 1-5 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette.

Memorial contributions in honor of Verl are suggested to the New Life Baptist Church or the American Bible Society. Friends can share memories and words of comfort with the family online at www.eaglefuneralhomes.com
