Virgina Witte (1929 – 2017)

Virginia Helen (Cox) Witte, age 87, of Archbold, Ohio, passed away Sunday evening, April 9, 2017 at the Fairlawn Haven Special Care Unit, where she had resided for six years.

Ginnie was born December 10, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Lawrence and Helen (Hohenberger) Cox. She married Fred B. Witte, Sr. on February 19, 1955, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2006.
Ginnie’s love of music was quite evident in her life. For many years in Toledo, she directed a women’s singing group, The Arlingtonettes, that performed throughout the Toledo area. She also directed the Maumee Valley Nurses Choir in Toledo for several years, and was the accompanist for the singing group The New Beginnings in Archbold.

Combining music with her love of her Lord and the church, Ginnie was a church choir director for 50+ years at First English Lutheran Church and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, both in Toledo, Church of the Master Lutheran Church in Troy, Michigan, and at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Archbold.

Ginnie worked as a bookkeeper for Rupp Furniture Company in Archbold for 24 years. She served on the Fairlawn Haven Board, was a member of Archbold Community Theatre where she performed in musicals, and performed with the musical group Cantaré.

Ginnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Mary Jane Mueller, brother Rev. William Cox, and grandson, Andrew Gors.
Ginnie is survived by her six children –Linda Sue (Dick) Stein, LeClaire, IA; William (Lynn) Gors and Debbie (Tim) Smith, Archbold, OH; Pam (Rudy) Cecalek, Temperance, MI; Melanie (Dick) Nagel, Ormond Beach, FL; and Fred (Jen) Witte, Jr., Bryan, OH She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of Ginnie’s life will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Archbold, with visitation prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Interment will be in the Archbold Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Martin’s Lutheran Church.
