( L ) In the title match v Nate Hagan from Toledo Central Catholic, it took overtime to decide the outcome, but Hodges was a warrior and would not be denied, gaining a 2-1 OT victory to claim the Championship.
( R ) Cameron Slattman absolutely dominated his weight class, recording 3 pins en route to his Sectional Title. Slattman dispatched Rossford’s Jacob Burlage 43 seconds into the second period in the title match.
BOWLING GREEN: February 15, 2014 – The Wauseon Wrestling Team stood tall at the Stroh Arena on the BGSU Campus at the DII North Sectional on Saturday, February 15, finishing runner up in a field of 15, racking up 207.5 points. Nine individual wrestlers advanced to the district tourney, which will take place next Friday and Saturday at BGSU.
Capturing individual championships on Saturday were Cameron Slattman at 126 pounds and teammate Wade Hodges at 132 lbs. Slattman completely outclassed the 126 lb weight bracket en route to his 2014 championship, recorded three pins in capturing the title. Wade Hodges was n a similar run in his first two matches, recording a 1st period pin at 1:48 and in his second match running away with a 14-0 shutout; however, in his final championship match, Hodges displayed why he will be the favorite heading into the district meet, toughing out a thrilling overtime 2-1 victory over Toledo Central Catholic’s Nate Hagan.
In what was perhaps the premier matchup of the Sectional finals, in the 170 lb weight class, 2013 State runner up Aaron Schuette (160 lb) and 2013 State runner up Seth Williams (152 lb) squared off with Williams making a crucial reversal as the clock hit zero to take a nail bitter 4-2.
Also advancing to the 2014 DII District Meet for Wauseon will be Tre Campbell 160 lb (2nd), Andrew Bailey 106 lb (3rd), Alec Vonier 182 lb (3rd), Devon Jones 285 lb (3rd), Gage Campbell 120 lb (4th), Jackson Sluder 138 lb (4th).
