Bart Westfall talked to the Three Arts Club on the history of West Unity WEBThe January meeting of the Three Arts Club met at the home of Laura Rohlf. Bart Westfall was the guest speaker. He talked about the history of West Unity and showed many old post cards, pictures, and West Unity memorabilia. His presentation was very informative and enjoyable.

West Unity was started by John Rings in the late 1860’s. He had traveled west from Unity, Pennsylvania. So he named this new town West Unity. On July 4, 1865, it was incorporated. In 1870, the population of West Unity was 537. There was a town well at the corner of North Main and Jackson Streets where townspeople and visitors could get water. The streets were bricked in the 1920’s. Upstairs in the Town Hall, the high school basketball games were played. It was also used as a roller skating rink.

After Mr. Westfall’s presentation, the meeting was called to order. Twelve members were present. For the roll call, each member brought an item that they collect.

Thank yous were read from Janet Simmons, and Shirley Taylor for our thoughts, prayers, and cards. Also from Jacque Radabaugh for hosting our Premier Jewelry party, from the school for donating to the school play, and from the Senior Center for the favors we made for their Christmas party. We will raffle off a basket of jewelry and Avon items at the next basketball game. The February meeting will be held at the home of Emily Schlosser. The Pampered Chef fundraiser party is scheduled for April 18. The meeting was then adjourned.
