West Unity To Hire New Supervisor For Water Plant

Citing a need to have someone at the water plant for at least 20 hours a week, West Unity has created a new position.

The move comes as the Village Council seeks to comply with expected changes in rules from the state EPA. The council met in executive session during its meeting Nov. 10 and then passed a measure authorizing Village Administrator Josh Fritsch to advertise for a supervisor with Water 1 and a Wastewater 2 licenses.

The position will be paid $19 to $24 per hour based on experience and receive full benefits.

In other news, the village’s income tax collection is 14 percent higher than last year, but officials cannot explain the reason. Based on changes from House Bill 5, communities now receive taxes monthly and will need to wait until next year to have a proper comparison.

Council asked Fritsch to ask ODOT to take an extra inch of pavement off U.S. 20A when it comes next year for a street improvement project. A request to acquire the grindings from U.S. 127 next year will have to wait until the contractor is named.

The next council meeting is 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8
