Lance Thorp was the speaker at the regular meeting of the Montpelier Rotary on Monday. The guest of Steve Lamberson, Mr. Thorp spoke on the optimistic outlook he has for Montpelier Baseball. From Little League to high school, there is a new effort on the part of coaches and concerned citizens to establish more coordination in Montpelier Baseball to encourage the youth to feel as if they are all playing for the same team – Montpelier!

As MHS Baseball head coach, while he spoke positively about changes to the youth leagues, Mr. Thorp had the most to say about the high school teams. This year’s roster has good numbers. With only three seniors it makes for a young team but one that, he hopes, will be inspired to play hard. Mr. Thorp noted improvements to the Superior Athletic Complex which have been spear-headed by Montpelier’s superintendent, Dr. Grime. The hope is that, with a new Press Box, Montpelier Baseball may get more media time and better recognition.

Mr. Thorp also mentioned his encouragement in finding out that two of his players have gone on to play at the college level. Tyler Benner made catcher for the baseball team at Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia and Spencer Durham made pitcher at Adrian College.

Mr. Thorp looks forward to an exciting season of MHS Baseball.
