The wrestling pipeline between Delta, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Michigan continues. Last week Zack Mattin, seated at the table with his parents Mike and Leigh Mattin, signed to join his brothers Cole and Drew as a member of the University of Michigan wrestling program. “I decided on going to the University of Michigan due to the university’s academic and athletic standards”, said Mattin when explaining his choice. “The culture that the school portrays is something very special to me. And I am also very excited to be joining my brothers in Ann Arbor next year.”

Mattin said he did look at a couple other schools but after his visit to Michigan who knew that was the place for him.

During his high school years at Delta, Mattin has excelled academically also. He has been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA and is currently at the top of his class.

Athletically, Mattin accomplishments on the wrestling mat go without saying. He was a State Placer as a freshman, State Champion as a sophomore year, and was 42-0 last year heading to the State Tournament before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Mattin also is a member of the golf team, admitting he is not the best at golf, but he values the mental challenges that golf has to offer.

“Sports have taught me more than I could ever explain. However, I think that the most important thing I learned was a good work ethic, you get out of the sport what you put into it. Also, sports can bring people of all backgrounds together.”

Mattin plans on going into pre-med when arriving at Michigan, however he could see changing to some type of business major.
