barbershop1 WEBArchbold, OH – On Saturday, August 23 the sweet harmonies of barbershop music will fill the air as families from throughout the region gather to enjoy a fabulous concert presented by Southern Gateway Chorus! In addition to the barbershop concert at 1:00 p.m., guests of all ages can also have fun in the past while visiting with costumed guides and working craftsmen at Ohio’s largest living-history destination.

The Barbershop Concert in Founder’s Hall always draws award-winning performers and this year is no exception. A world-class chorus, Cincinnati’s Southern Gateway Chorus has been performing for more than 50 years. The Southern Gateway Chorus delivers high-energy performances, and has performed for audiences in 24 major cities throughout the United States and Canada. The group has been featured in New York’s fabled Carnegie Hall, the famous Chicago Theatre, Pittsburgh’s Heinz Hall, and the Saddledome in Calgary, Canada. Southern Gateway has been awarded 22 medals in their 29 competitive appearances and has won the coveted gold medal twice. As past champion, Southern Gateway was selected to film a show at Music Hall for PBS in 1994. Titled “Keep America Singing,” the show was hosted by Mitch Miller and is still viewed nationally.

“Traditional barbershop music is a perfect fit for a special event at Sauder Village,” shared Kim Krieger, PR/Media Relations Specialist. “We look forward to having Southern Gateway Chorus share their talent at Sauder Village and we’re sure our guests will enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of great music in Founder’s Hall!”

Other upcoming events at Sauder Village include Home School Appreciation Days September 9-13 and September 16-20, Preserving Our Memories on September 13, and the Celebrate Our Artisans event September 16-21. Yet this fall guests can will also enjoy visiting Sauder Village for the always-popular Apple Butter Making event on September 24-27 and the All Aboard Train Event on October 4 and 5.

The Sauder Village mission is to provide guests with experiences rich in history, hospitality, creativity, and fun. Since opening in 1976, Sauder Village has grown to a 235-acre complex with more than 450 employees and 400 adult and 200 youth volunteers. As Ohio’s largest living history destination, Sauder Village includes the award winning Historic Village, the 98-room Sauder Heritage Inn, a 48-site campground, the 350-seat Barn Restaurant, the Doughbox Bakery, and banquet seating for 750 in Founders Hall. The Historic Village preserves more than 75 historic structures and nearly 50,000 artifacts where history is brought to life through stories, demonstrations, and programs. Proceeds from the retail and hospitality areas, along with admissions, memberships, and donations, contribute to the financial support for this 501(c)(3) organization.
