The Edgerton School Board meeting of February 14 began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by roll call. All five board members, Lyn Bowsher, Amanda Giesige, Christina Herman, Nick Hug and Robert Siebenaler, were in attendance.
In the first order of business, the Edgerton School Board approved of both the organizational and regular session meetings of January 10.
In the Four County Career Center report, the Four County Board reported that Cindra Keeler was named president, Brian Baker was voted in as the vice president and Brian Baker was named as the legislative liaison.
The board agreed to hold its meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.,m. in the multipurpose room. The only exception will be with a meeting on June 27.
In the treasurer’s report, the Edgerton School Board approved of the financial statement for December 2021. They then approved of the appropriations modification and also approved of the 2023 tax budget.
In the superintendent’s report, the board approved of Christian Miller as job coach. They also approved of certified classified substitutes, of Tim Meister as the foster care point of contact and of Meister and Rick Bachman as homeless student liaison.
The board also approved of the Outcomes Measurement Report, of the Newlyn Quest donation to the law enforcement program and of the four-year contract with NBEC for internet access.
In the treasurer’s report, Bill Blakely presented the general fund review and expenses comparison to last year, gave a food service analysis and discussed income tax.
The school board approved of the financial report along with the amounts and rates from the Budget Commission and then certifying them to the county auditor.
The board also approved of the cost adjustment for the NWOESC for the 2021-22 year and approved of the initial cost with the NWOESC for the 2022-23 school year.
In addition, the board approved of the records commission schedule, as well as the annual records disposal for the state auditors office from July 29, 2020.
In the superintendent’s report, Kermit Riehle gave accolades to the second quarter honor roll students for grades 7-8, 9-12 and to Edgerton’s Four County students.
Riehle talked about the art displays at Hicksville’s Community Memorial Hospital: Elanna Stulhood, first grade; Abigail Krill, third grade;; Kaylynn Bartlet, sixth grade; Leben Dietsch, seventh grade, Ava Neubig, eighth grade and Keira Myers, ninth grade.
Three eighth graders, Adam Gruver, Alivia Farnham and Mikaila Naus, have art displays at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.
Next, the board approved of the 2022-23 membership in the OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association).
The school board then accepted two exchange students from Spain: Sandra Ortiz Lete and Paula Nauroa Uzcategui. Lete’s host parents are Scott and Colleen Hennessey and Uzcategui’s host parent is Dawn Fitzcharles.
Next, the board approved of the EMIS Services Assistance Agreement with NBEC and also approved of Paula Shiple’s donation to the music department of a Yamaha Keyboard.
The board then approved of Darlene Doan as a bus driver and also approved of Doan as a substitute staff member.
The school board also approved of supplemental contracts for volunteers and chaperones, along with approving teachers and paraprofessionals on NWOESC’s sub-list.
The superintendent then discussed several other areas, including a tentative senior overnight trip to Indianapolis and an annex facility rental fee.
Riehl stated that there are four sessions coming up for the 2022 Ohio School Leadership Institute program: February 8-9, April 26-27, October 10-11 and November 28-29.
Riehl also discussed an additional full time substitute teacher, an assistant technical staff member, a dyslexia coordinator, an assistant RTI staffm, annex autism cost analysis, a power ad update, annex renovation, the upcoming Williams County Health survey and student enrollment.
Elementary school principal Brett Grieser then gave a report. Grieser stated that students continue to do great things, including creating several art projects.
On January 31, students celebrated the 100th day of school for the year and the TIES program celebrated a successful second year and the science club and art club have had great turnouts. The Monday Leader In Me meetings are also going well.
Also, elementary students had the opportunity to play basketball on three different occasions at home basketball games.
On Saturday, February 5, students were recognized with service awards and the award winners will get yard signs to display. Thanks goes out to Subway, for partnering with the school on the awards. Occasional paws-itive referrals are also given.
Upcoming events at Edgerton Elementary are Kidz Club, February 14, 21 and 28th and March 7, PTO meeting on February 15, Mrs. Hug retirement party on February 16, Mini-cheer night on February 17, Art Club and Lego Club on March 2, perfect attendance meeting on March 4, Science Club/Lego Club on March 9 and Scholastic Book Fair/Mobile Dentist on March 14.
Junior and Senior High Principal Ben Wilhelm then gave a report, starting with all the high school sports teams are in sectional tournaments this week. Girls basketball plays Fayette on February 16, wrestling is at Archbold on February 25 and boys basketball takes on Edon.
In other events, the EHS band and choir competed in the Williams County Solo and Ensemble and seventh graders Alyvia Yoder and Logan Samper competed in the Williams County spelling bee.
On January 2, with over 50 parents and students attending, the Northwest State Community College held College Credit Plus information.
On January 22 and February 5, students were recognized for Leadership and Service.
On March 3, the Student Leadership team will be attending the 33rd Northwest Ohio Student Leadership Conference at Defiance College.
In upcoming events, All County Band and Choir will take place on February 16 and 17, FFA week will be on February 22-25 and March 11 will be the end of the third quarter.
