The Archbold Board of Education meeting began at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th at the High School, called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Treasurer Christine Ziegler administered the Oath of Office to new Board Member Gina Benecke.

Curriculum Director Michele Bagrowski shared that the State of Ohio has changed the grading system for schools. Instead of getting A-F grades, students will receive 1-5 stars. This bill was overwhelmingly passed in late June of last year by the Ohio General Assembly.

Middle School Principal Matt Shields gave his reports, which included talk for coming up with a strategy for struggling students. At the end of the first semester for 2022, only 12 “F’s” were found, which is a significant drop from their last two yearly reports.

Those had students with 27 “F’s” and some with 33 “F’s” in the first semester. The School started doing various things to help students bring their grades up such as adding Academic Assist period and placing daily study tables around the school.

The R.O.C.K.S program is coming back after the break period from the national COVID outbreak. This program was first implemented in 2012 with a morning and an after-school period where students can receive academic support from the district staff.

Archbold Schools social worker Jessica Flores has been doing social work cases for all 3 buildings and meeting with kids weekly. She has also provided a little training to staff.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be starting back up again after the break from the COVID outbreak. Mr. King will be taking over the FCA program at Archbold and hosted their first meeting last Thursday, February 10th.

FCA is a worldwide program that’s been around since the 1950’s. This organization focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging students to make a difference for Christ.

Fulton County’s Annual 61st Spelling Bee was held on February 1st at the NWO Educational Services Center where thirty-five students participated. Participating schools included Archbold, Delta, Evergreen, Fayette, Pettisville, Wauseon, Swanton and Holy Trinity. Archbold 4th grader Liam Hageman took 1st place.

During High School Principal Royal Short’s Education Report, he stated their Government Department Qualified for the Regional Mock Trial.

Mr. Short shared ACT testing will begin taking place on March 1st, and on March 30th students will be able to use an excused absence for Job Shadow Day.

The Archbold Area Schools was awarded $90,000 dollars to purchase two school buses to add to the fleet. Per the School Bus Purchase Programs requirements, for each bus purchased one must be taken off regular routes.

Following the reports of school staff from each school, the Board approved the following Personnel Recommendations:

•The professional substitute list provided by NWO Education Service Center for the 2021-2022 school year as presented.

•Accept the retirement resignation of Michelle Kinsey effective May 31st, 2022.

•Accept the retirement resignation of Thomas Walker effective May 31st, 2022.

•Approve one year supplemental contract for David Dominique as Intramural Director (2) for the 2021-2022 school year.

•Approve Debra Schnitkey as a Classified Substitute for the 2021-2022 school year.

•Approve one year contract for Madeline Short as a student worker for the 2021-2022 school year effective January 22, 2022.

•Approve Shawn Grime as a certified van driver for the 2021-2022 school year, having met all certificate requirements pursuant to Board Policy, effective January 18th, 2022.
