The Bryan City Board of Education held their meeting on Monday, February 14th. The meeting was called to order at 6:09 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The board first moved to approve the minutes of the January 10th Organizational meeting and regular meeting as well as the January 27th special meeting.
With no public participation taking place, the board moved to hear the following communications. The Four County report was given by Mr. Rairigh on behalf of Mrs. Keeler.
It was stated that spa days are coming and will take place on March 22nd to the 24th. The board then learned that Brendan Degryse is the first student accepted from Four County into the Military Academy at West Point.
The Athletics report was given by Chad Savage. Boy’s bowling shared the NWOAL Championship with Liberty Center. Girls bowling placed 3rd. Girls’ varsity Basketball secured their 3rd straight NWOAL Championship.
Boys Basketball Fan Appreciation Night is Tuesday February 15th. 17 swimmers/divers will participate at districts. Bowlers will compete at sectionals this week.
Cheer practice try-outs are this week and on February 21st baseball, softball, and track start. Tennis begins March 7th.
The Elementary report was given by Amy Dominique. The Coffee cart was very successful. The dodgeball tournament is in round two and March 17th is Grandparents Day.
Family Literacy Night is 2/24/22 from 5-7:30pm. Students continue to earn awards for math fact fluency. 20 2nd graders have earned Happy Meals and 65 1st graders have completed their 1st grade words.
The MS/HS report was given by Steve Alspaugh. The Williams County spelling bee champion was 6th grader Adam Elzey. The State ACT’s will take place on March 1st.
Packets were sent out for CEO on Wednesday, March 16th. The Youth Advisory Team has been busy and sent positivity cards to students and staff in December.
In January, they also posted coping skills/drug awareness posters around the buildings. Currently they are utilizing multiple formats to make peers conscious of teen dating and violence awareness month.
Max Wertz, a 1946 graduate, joined the Navy his senior year and lost his varsity sweater while in the Navy. Bill’s locker room, along with others, replaced his sweater.
The Board then moved to approve the following recommendations from the Treasurer. The amending of permanent appropriations for FY22. An internet agreement for St. Patrick’s with the NBEC/NWOCA.
A service agreement with NWOESC. A Resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor.
A Resolution to advertise for bus bids. A Resolution authorizing a lease purchase financing for the purpose of refunding all or portion of outstanding certificates of participation. Numerous donations were also approved as presented.
The 2023-2024 BCS School Calendar draft was approved next before the board moved to approve the following recommendations from the Superintendent.
Approval for the following students to graduate due to meeting the requirements of Bryan City Schools and the State of Ohio. Michaela Blake, Bella Jackson, Aidan Manley, Dakota Meine, Jacob Miller, Jordan Scheuer, Schuyler Schilt, Alisyn Shaffer, and Trenton Wolfe.
An MOU with Purdue University in Fort Wayne and Western Governors University. An agreement with the Board at OHSAA. The board then approved the itinerary for an eighth-grade trip as well as numerous personnel recommendations.
With no further items requiring discussion and no executive session called for, the board moved to adjourn for the evening at 7:04 p.m.
