(November 28, 2014) – WAUSEON: The Lady Indians grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Wauseon’s Junior Varsity squad hosted the Lady Blakbirds of Pettisville on Friday. They defended their home court with vigor, claiming an 18-9 win.
It was with a stifling defense that the Lady Indians were able to control this game. After allowing just two points in the first quarter, the Wauseon girls held Pettisville scoreless in the second period. In the third quarter, the hometown Indians gave up 4 points. For the final period of play, Pettisville could only muster 3 points.
That’s not to say the girls from Pettisville didn’t have their own proud defensive performance. Wauseon only scored 6 points in the opening period, and just two in the second quarter. The Lady Blackbirds gave up another 6 points in quarter number three, and held the home team to 4 points in the fourth quarter. Giving up 18 points is a very respectable defensive outing. It’s just easy to lose sight of that when the opposing defense allows just nine total points.
Freshman Karli Penrod led all scorers in the game with 6 points. Pettisville was also led in scoring by a freshman. Sami Tilley put up 4 points in the loss.
Both teams played defense extremely well, something not always seen in a junior varsity game. It will be interesting to see how well each offense performs in their next game. For Pettisville, that will be Delta. Wauseon has hated rival Archbold next on their schedule.
