State Patrol Investigating Fatal Crash On US-24 In Lucas County

Waterville – The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on US-24 near milepost 64.  The crash occurred on October 5th, 2023 at approximately 8:34 PM.

The preliminary investigation shows a black Ford Edge, operated by Michael Laskey, 56, Maumee, Ohio, was driving eastbound on US-24. A red Ford F-250, operated by Scott Whytsell, 58, Grantsville, West Virginia, was driving westbound on US-24.

Mr. Laskey failed to negotiate a curve, went through the median into westbound traffic, struck Mr. Whytsell’s vehicle and rolled into the grass median.

Mr. Laskey was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Whytsell sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the University of Toledo Medical Center.  The crash remains under investigation at this time.


The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Waterville Police Department, Waterville Township Police Department, Waterville Fire Department, Maumee Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation and Lucas County Coroners Office.
