What started in the 70’s as a way to fundraise to replace the Williams County Fairground’s grandstands that were burnt to cinders in an arson incident is still going strong in Williams County today.
Serving around 200 meals every event, the Fair Foundation sponsored fish fry is still held to this day, with contributions going towards FFA and 4H activities -including a $1,000 scholarship, scholarship banquet, and fairground activities as well, like assistance funding new flooring, building repairs, and updates like those seen on the dairy barn roof and rabbit barn in recent years, and new flooring currently.
The fair foundation consists of 30-35 volunteers, most of whom are retirees. Volunteer Judith shared that as for compensation, the volunteers “get the joy of serving the community, and a good meal out of it.”
The fair foundation will also be present at the March Maple Syrup Fest at the fairgrounds, fundraising through a pancake and sausage breakfast.
