PETTISVILLE (January 21, 2025) – Snoopy used to pound out the line, “It was a dark and stormy night,” starting his great American novel in the “Peanuts” strip.

“It was a dark and frigid night” in Pettisville as Wauseon shot just 34 percent from the floor. But because Pettisville was only 4/28 with 25 turnovers, the Indians rolled to a 50-14 romp over the Blackbirds, to raise their record to 13-3 on the season.

It took 7:46 into the game before Olivia Miller scored the Birds first field goal. By that time the Indians had a 9-1 lead as Sophie Rupp, Johanna Tester, Ella Tule had scored field goals.

Tegan Hamilton’s runner to beat the first quarter buzzer started a 15-0 scoring run that went five minutes into the second quarter.

Marin Leatherman’s putback, three Tester buckets including a swipe and score, Aunali Reyes’ baby hook and Rupp’s triple made it 24-3.

The Blackbirds (5-11) went 0/6 in the second, getting just 2/4 from the foul line as the Indians went up 28-5 at the half.

Three more Rupp buckets and Tule’s fastbreak basket with 3:13 left in the third, increased the Indian gap to 36-7.

Wauseon hit the 35-point, running clock margin on Abby Kissel’s floater in the key with 2:10 to go. Rupp’s 13 led all scorers and Tester tacked on 12.
