The Williams County Commissioners appointed an interim director on Thursday, March 27 while searching for a permanent replacement.

Williams County 911 Communications Director Heather Mercer was named the EMA Director interim director and sworn in by Commissioner Scott Lirot.

The commissioners debated using an interim, finding a replacement, or partnering with another county after EMA Director Apryl McClaine resigned.

Williams County Engineer Todd Roth discussed the funding for the proposed dog park at Goldie Newman Park during the commissioners’ meeting.

He will apply for a $20,000 grant from the Bryan Area Foundation and request an additional $20,000 from the county. Roth has commitments for waste stations, signage, and a concrete pad, with volunteers ready to help with seeding and drainage.

Roth informed the commissioners that he could allocate $10,000 from the park’s operation budget and asked them to approve an additional $10,000.

He mentioned that there are other projects planned for this year, so he wants to ensure the carryover funds are sufficient. He also expressed his intention to repay the $10,000 to the general fund using future carryover funds.

The commissioners approved a $10,000 transfer from the general fund for the project, noting its county-wide impact.
