The Wauseon Primary School is getting a new playground. According to Primary School Principal, Blake Young, the new playground will be a replacement for the current playground, which is original to the building.

Built back in 1999, Young explained that the playground is in rough shape and was in need of replacement.

Due to this, the process began around spring last year to get measurements and quotes. During conversations with the board, member Larry Zimmerman suggested the school look into a company called Playground Boss.

This suggestion stemmed from Zimmerman’s work with the Wauseon Rotary and their subsequent work to replace playground equipment in Wauseon’s public parks.

Conversations were then held with Playground Boss, and a quote was received. Young then continued and explained that the school administration is extremely excited.

The playground will feature more equipment than before, giving students more things to do. The number of slides alone will be increasing substantially.

One side of the playground currently features three slides, along with an additional three on the other side. This will be changing to seven slides on one side, and an additional nine slides on the other.

There will also be rock walls for the kids to climb on, other climbing apparatuses, shaded areas, musical drums, a Spin Tastic, and more. Items like the Spin Tastic will also be wheelchair accessible.

Playground Boss will also be donating a new swing set frame for the playground, which will mean the entire playground will be different from end to end.

In addition, the color scheme will feature Wauseon Pride, with such colors as red, white, and black.

The project is being entirely funded through the school district with no outside funding being used and is expected to break ground around mid to late June.
