The Lyons Village Council met for its regular session on Monday evening, October 6. The meeting began with updates on several ongoing projects throughout the village, followed by discussions on seasonal preparations and future planning efforts.
Work on the North Adrian Street crossover for water and sewer was completed earlier that same day, marking a step forward in infrastructure upkeep. Council then moved to receive an update on the long-anticipated water tower project.
Bidding for the new tower will begin later this month, with advertisements scheduled to run on October 15 and 22. The opening of those bids will take place on November 5.
Attention then shifted to fall communication and cleanup efforts. Fall letters were emailed to residents on September 26, and the bulk pickup held on October 4 went smoothly.
The final Farmers Market of the season also took place on October 4. Council was informed that the Co-op plans to meet with the village in the coming months to discuss plans for next year’s market season.
Discussions continued with plans to improve the parking lot area next to Dollar General. The village intends to bring in stone and place fencing along the area.
Council also held a conversation regarding water and sewer rates, noting that the current 25-year contract is set to expire in September 2026.
Once that happens, the cost to the village is expected to increase significantly, which will result in an increase in local rates to keep up with expenses.
With the holiday season drawing near, letters will be sent out regarding the annual tree decorating at the park, as well as signups for the holiday parade.
In other maintenance matters, Ron and Rod recently purchased a few needed parts for the lift station to keep operations running smoothly.
Quotes are also being gathered for a new copier contract, with the current agreement set to expire in 2026. Additionally, T & R will provide leaf pickup dates as soon as they are able.
Council then moved to legal matters, voting to renew a two-year contract with Kevin Whitlock to continue serving as the village solicitor.
In other business, Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments connected the village with students from The University of Toledo. As part of their Capstone project during the second semester, students will assess village sidewalks and explore potential walking paths.
The hope is that their findings may help the village secure funding for future improvements.
