The Montpelier Park Board met to review routine business items and receive project updates on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
To start the meeting, the January 7, 2026, minutes were approved alongside the January 31, 2026, financial statements.
The board additionally opted to set umpire fee donations for the 2026 season. A contribution of $6,000 total was approved for the Montpelier Baseball Association and Montpelier Girls Softball. Each division received $3,000.
Discussion continued regarding a proposed pool renovation project. A proposal, developed with the Montpelier Village Council’s Economic Development and Sustainability (EDS) Committee, has been successfully forwarded to the state.
After receiving the proposal, federal offices will review and explore possible funding sources. The Park Board is currently waiting for feedback and no direct timeline has been announced.
The equipment ordered for the Iron Horse River Trail disc golf course has arrived. Installation is planned for sometime in the upcoming summer.
The board also discussed the possibility of adding shade structures at Founders Park. They agreed to pause the project until after the annual Montpelier Bean Days in July 2026 in order to better understand what the space actually requires. Preliminary estimates place the cost at $35,000, with plans to seek donations.
The shade structure would be a permanent addition, offering residents a shady place to relax during village festivals and events.
The Recreation Report given by Sandy Gordon highlighted several spring and summer preparations. Gordon has received the $5,000 grant from Parkview Hospitals for the village’s summer lunch program. She has successfully completed the lunch menu and secured several volunteers.
Additional updates included general winter maintenance and equipment repairs. Head of Maintenance Nick Ramos reported that he is currently in the process of building the pool lifeguard team for the summer season.
He also confirmed that Ed Perry Excavating has agreed to renovate the Pony League baseball diamond.
The next Montpelier Park Board meeting is scheduled to take place on March 4, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Recreation Office.
