WAUSEON — The Ohio State University Extension Office in Fulton County is offering its next Food Safety Manager training course on April 8 and 9, providing food service workers with the skills and certification needed to meet Ohio Department of Health requirements.

The 16-hour course, held at the Robert Fulton Agriculture Center at 8770 State Route 108 in Wauseon, utilizes the nationally recognized ServSafe program and covers the most critical food safety practices for preventing foodborne illness.

The training is open to anyone currently working in — or looking to enter — the food industry.

Ohio’s certification in food protection rule, 3701-21-25 of the Administrative Code, requires food service establishments to educate and train personnel on effective food safety practices.

The Food Safety Manager and Person in Charge certifications are the two most common levels of training, and both are available through the Fulton County Extension office.

Upon successful completion of the two-day course and exam, participants receive a Food Safety Manager Level 2 Certificate from the National Restaurant Association and obtain the Ohio Manager Certification in food protection from the Ohio Department of Health.

Attendance at both days of training is mandatory in order to take the exam. The training fee covers the book, training materials, and the exam.

The Extension office also provides light snacks and beverages, along with lunch on the second day. Maximum class size is 15, and payment must be made to be fully registered.

The course is designed to help food service staff identify and prevent the most critical barriers to food safety, incorporating proven techniques aligned with the most recent Food and Drug Administration food code.

Additional 2026 Food Safety Manager training dates are scheduled for June 17 and 18, Oct. 14 and 15, and Dec. 2 and 3. All classes run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
