The regular meeting of the Madison Township Trustees was held on Monday, July 13, at the township office.
Trustees present were Terry Huffman, Mark Schmucker and Jen Zuver. Fiscal Officer Debra Bernath, Tony Carpenter, Austin Douglass, Jason Marvin and Tyler Bryner were also present.
The minutes from the June 22, 2026, meeting and payment of bills were approved.
Trustees received an email from Village of Pioneer Solicitor Tom Thompson in reference to the anticipated annexation of township property as well as a previous annexation.
As part of the annexation agreement, the Village of Pioneer has offered to pay $1,575.21 annually to offset the tax loss on the property.
The parcel slated for annexation between the township and Pioneer comprises 74.761 acres, which includes the compost pump area, lagoon and Floral Grove Cemetery.
Schmucker made the motion to approve the annexation agreement with the Village of Pioneer, with Zuver seconding it.
Madison Township/Kunkle Fire Department Chief Jason Marvin asked the trustees to sign an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for the county to take over the first responders and house an EMS unit.
Schmucker made the motion to approve the MOU, with Zuver seconding it.
Road Supervisor Tony Carpenter received an updated quote from Kalida Truck for a stainless steel box at a cost of $16,400, plus $4,000 in installation costs. Carpenter told the trustees he is continuing to search for a new one-ton truck for the township.
Schmucker would like to see a “Slow Children At Play” road sign placed on County Road S west of the church. There is a new family living on the road who is not familiar with living in the country.
He also made a motion to proceed with purchasing a diesel fuel tank for the township. Zuver will be looking into obtaining grants to help with infrastructure projects.
Schmucker made a motion for a resolution to accept the tax amounts and tax rates per the county budget commission to the county auditor.
The next meeting will be Monday, July 27, at 7 p.m.
